Custom joinery needs to fit the space available. Door openings need to align with the finished layout. Floor transitions, wall junctions and ceiling details all rely on accurate measurements and coordination.

Checking dimensions and site conditions before installation helps identify potential clashes while there's still time to address them. It also reduces the likelihood of avoidable adjustments once materials and trades are on site.

Precision isn't always the most visible part of a fit-out, but it's often what makes the finished details feel right.

A refurbishment can be disruptive. But how were we able to renovate without putting our client’s business on pause?

Our construction team had to work around a live environment rather than treating the site as an empty building.

Before demolition could begin, a temporary reception was established.

Temporary stud walls, doors, plastering, electrical adjustments and reception desks created a working setup that allowed the business to continue operating while the permanent reception was being rebuilt.

That’s why for a live environment, the construction plan is just as important as the design.

What happens when the business grows?

Additional staff, new equipment, changing work patterns and evolving business needs can put pressure on a layout that once felt generous.

When planning a fit-out, it's worth considering how easily the space could accommodate those changes.

Can furniture be reconfigured? Is there room for additional workstations? Could a room serve a different purpose later? Are essential services positioned with future adjustments in mind?

Design for the team you have, and the one you're building.

In this project, for a healthcare environment, closing for two weeks wasn't an option, so the construction plan had to work differently.

THE BRIEF
Our client approached us with a simple but important concern: their reception and waiting area was no longer working for their staff or their clients.

We looked at the existing experience and the observations helped identify where the existing layout was working and where it wasn't.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Once the works were underway, demolition was carried out. New walls and joinery were coordinated. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and fire services were adjusted where required. Flooring was removed and reinstated, and existing walls and ceilings were made good.

THE TEMPORARY SETUP
Keeping the business operational meant creating a temporary reception before the existing one could be removed.

Temporary walls were framed and plastered, temporary doors were installed, and temporary reception desks were provided so the business could continue seeing patients.

THE NEW RECEPTION
We were able to improve the flow of the space by using a curved form that allowed us to create a more natural transition through the space.

It's created a softer transition between the entry and the working area. It's a subtle change, but one that can make an arrival feel much more intuitive.

Flooring contributes to the appearance and performance of a workplace.

Different areas may require different flooring solutions depending on foot traffic, maintenance, acoustics, comfort and the type of activity taking place.

In some areas, subtle variations help define the space without introducing physical partitions. In others, stronger colour contrasts can add character and create a visual point of interest.

Flooring can also help define zones visually, guide movement or create a transition between shared areas and quieter workspaces.

Neutral interiors are often considered simple, but creating a successful neutral palette requires careful selection.

It gives the workplace flexibility while allowing furniture, branding and architectural details to stand out. The interest often comes from tone, texture and proportion rather than strong colour.

Warm whites, soft greys, stone tones, beige, timber and muted accents can all create different results depending on the lighting, textures and surrounding materials. Without variation, a neutral space can feel flat, but with the right layering, it can feel calm, welcoming and adaptable.

Effective workplace lighting is not simply about making a room bright.Workstations, meeting rooms, reception areas and breakout spaces may each require a different lighting approach.

An effective lighting plan combines practical illumination with the character of the interior.

The aim is to design a space where people can see clearly, feel comfortable and use the room as intended without demanding attention.

Timber finishes can bring warmth and texture to commercial interiors, helping balance harder surfaces such as glass, metal, stone and polished flooring.

They can be used across cabinetry, wall features, furniture, flooring and screening to create visual continuity throughout a space. The tone and grain of the finish also influence the atmosphere, from light and understated to darker and more grounded.

Timber-look materials can offer a practical alternative where durability, maintenance and budget need to be carefully considered.

It is not only the material itself, but how it is used alongside everything else.

Meeting rooms are more than just four walls and a table.

The room’s size, seating arrangement, lighting, acoustic treatment, screen position and access to power can all influence how comfortably a meeting takes place.

A boardroom may require a different setup from a smaller room used for focused discussions or video calls.

Good meeting room design considers how the room will be used, who will use it and what needs to happen there.

What happens when a workplace has too much storage?

If cabinetry is oversized, poorly positioned or rarely used, it can reduce circulation and make a workplace feel more enclosed than it needs to be. On the other hand, too little storage can leave everyday items sitting on desks and shared surfaces.

The better question isn't simply “How much storage do we need?” It's what needs to be stored, who uses it, how often, and where it belongs.

Good storage planning makes room for the things people need without taking over the space.
