“Endless Road, Still Standing” Uluru
She was never lost… just waiting to be felt again.
I was fourteen, and the world felt bigger than I could hold.
We drove into the unknown, all of us packed into a Holden station wagon, pulling our little piece of home behind us.
Mum, Dad, my brothers, my cousin,
dogs at our feet…laughter tangled in the heat and dust.
The road stretched on forever —or at least it felt that way.
Miles of nothing… and somehow, everything.
Through broken edges and distance, I found my way back to the heart of her.
Then she appeared —rising from the earth like she had always been there, waiting.
Ancient.
Silent.
Unshaken.
Burnt earth rising strong,
etched with time, holding stories older than memory.
The sky stretches wide above her,
soft, forgiving… while she remains — grounded, unmoved.
And in the grasses below,
life whispers quietly,
“I am still here.”
Just like her… just like me.
And in that moment —then and now —
I don’t just see her…
I feel how small I am,
and how vast life can be.
Now I return, not by road,
but by memory… by hand…by heart.
This piece holds that memory,
that feeling, that quiet strength.
She was never lost…
and neither was I.
