A piece of aristocratic history, preserved in leather and brass.

Crafted in London by J. Southcombe circa 1880, this exceptionally rare late Victorian document and jewel box bears the hand-engraved title “Marquess of Huntly” — linking it to one of Scotland’s most storied noble houses.

Created in 1599, the Marquessate of Huntly is the oldest surviving marquessate in Scotland and among the most historic titles in the British Isles. That distinguished provenance gives this already beautiful object a remarkable sense of lineage, ceremony and place.

With its richly aged black leather, finely worked brass fittings and elegant recessed handle, it is as much an object of connoisseurship as it is a functional piece — a rare survivor from the world of Victorian aristocratic life.

For the collector of exceptional objects, Scottish history or pieces with true provenance, this is an extraordinary find.
