Emma Grave, the new Principal at SCOTS PGC College in Warwick, Qld, says a school with boarding "has a completely different feel to it — a different heartbeat”.

She says all students benefit — including day students — because boarding attracts a particular type of educator.

“The stakes are higher. A kid might be away from home when Grandpa passes, or when the dog has to be put down, or when there’s a family reunion that they can’t get to. In those moments, the kid needs you — not to teach them English and Maths, but to be their important adult at that time.”

Working with boarders also means sharing your world.

“When you live together, you experience life together — when the fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night, Mrs Grave is out there in her dressing gown with everyone else.”

After an amazing 15 years at Mitcham Square Newsagency, Nicole has made the difficult decision to finish up and try something new.

Over the years, Nicole has become a familiar and friendly face to so many of our customers. Her knowledge, warmth and sense of humour have made her a much-loved part of our business and our community.

Nicole will be with us until Friday, 11 September, so please pop in before then to say goodbye and wish her well.

We’ll also be having farewell drinks on Friday from 5:00 pm at the TA. We’d love for you to join us as we share some stories, enjoy a few laughs and perhaps shed a tear or two.

Thank you for an incredible 15 years, Nicole. You’ll be greatly missed, but we’re excited to see what comes next for you. ❤️
