We spend so much time planning, researching, and looking for the perfect moment to begin.

But the truth is that real progress happens the second you decide to just start. Whether it is a new personal goal, a creative hobby, or finally tackling that big project you have been putting off, taking action is the only way forward.

Here in the workshop, every finished piece simply begins with picking up a tool and getting to work.

What is that one thing you already know you need to do? Stop waiting for the perfect moment and take your first step today.

Getting a feel for Persoonia timber on the lathe! 🪵 I was gifted a solid stash of this wood ages ago and have been eager to finally see how it handles.

This little clock paperweight is quite a departure from the large bowls I usually turn. Don't let the size fool you, though. Working on such a small scale is a proper challenge, and getting the fine details right with the skew chisel and spindle gouge definitely kept me on my toes.

Every dollar you spend is a vote for the kind of world you want to build. 🔨

When you buy a mass-produced board from an overseas assembly line, you get cheap glue, dubious timber sources, and a lifespan measured in months.

When you buy from a small workshop, you’re investing in sustainably sourced lumber, non-toxic finishes, and hours of genuine human care. You're keeping a traditional craft alive and getting a tool that your grandkids could end up cooking on.

Vote for quality. Vote for longevity. Back your local makers.

Nothing but lathe work. Watching the chaotic crimson grain of this Red Mallee burl reveal itself under the tools never gets old.

Massive thanks to Pop's Shed for supplying this stunning blank. They are running a 20% off sale on their timber until September 6th, so head over and stock up for your own shop.

For a while now I've been testing different board stands in the background. A belated birthday present for my Mum was the perfect excuse to finally hustle and land on the design.
Pictured here with a plaque for her market stall, the stand supports my timber pieces, allowing them to be put on display.

The other great thing about them is that they flat pack perfectly as well, and easily lock together.

I'll be releasing these with the next stock drop as a permanent Bark and Board item.

Form finding in salvaged spotted gum. 🪵

I’ve been spending time at the lathe and workbench dialing in the perfect spoon design to add to the Bark and Board small-batch lineup.

The process starts on the lathe to establish the main profile, and then I switch over to ball gouges and a hook knife to hand-carve a handle that screams pure rustic texture.

It’s a deliberate exercise in form finding, striking that exact balance between a standardized, repeatable shape and preserving the raw, salvaged character of the timber.

Well, that was fast! I am honestly not surprised this one lasted less than 12 hours on the website.

This Red Mallee burl bowl is officially sold. The chaotic, swirling crimson grain easily made it one of the most breathtaking pieces to ever come off my lathe, and I am absolutely thrilled it has already found its new home.

A massive thank you to Pop's Shed for supplying this incredible bowl blank. If you are looking for some top-tier timber for your own shop, they are running a 20% off sale from now until September 6th, so definitely head over and take advantage of it.

Thank you to everyone who checked out the drop and supported the shop. Keep your eyes peeled, because more one-of-a-kind hand-turned pieces are always in the works.
