Pappa Sven is a Scandinavian homewares store, located in the beautiful city of Newcastle, Australia. I fell in love with EVERYTHING about Scandinavia during a recent 10 month experience living in Skelleftea, in the very North of Sweden, and am passionate about bringing a small piece of this back to Australia. This experience, combined with my Textile Science degree and a long love of natural fibres and fabrics seems like the perfect combination for starting Pappa Sven.

Have you got your Saturday plans ready? Here is our perfect Saturday plan. Start with a swim at Newcastle Ocean Baths. The water temp is perfection and the sun will be shining! Head up to Good Brother Espresso for a coffee and some street chatter and wander your way into town. Say hello to our friends Studio Melt and then take a browse through Newcastle Art Gallery and see the New Spring collection. Wander down to Watt Space Gallery to see the High Tea with Mrs Woo Slow fashion pop up and then GUESS WHAT next stop is Pappa Sven. We will be open from 10-3 and will have fresh coffee all day as we have some knitting friends coming to gather. Drop in for a chat and check out all of the beautiful things that arrived this week!

We had a phone call in the shop today from a lovely lady that reminded me of all the things I love about small business and that actually we don’t need Meta! She was originally from Finland, but lives in Sydney and was looking for a gift for a new baby that had been born into her family. She really wanted to buy the gift from her favourite Finnish brand LAPUAN KANKURIT but didn’t get to the store on her recent trip to Finland. So she rang the weaving mill in Lapua and spoke to beautiful Hannele who told her to call Libby at Pappa Sven and how we had visited the mill last year. So the lady rang and I answered the phone , we had such a nice chat and we found the perfect doggy park blanket for her special newborn. While we continued chatting on the phone Helene was busily gift wrapping and packing the blanket (I wish I’d got a pic) and we popped it straight into the express post for delivery to Sydney tomorrow. This is how we’d love our business to grow, through word of mouth, sharing the love and offering a beautiful selection of products with great service!

I packed all my favourite Pappa Sven outdoor gear from Fjällräven Primus Equipment Muurla | Functional Finnish Design House Teemu Järvi Öjbro Vantfabrik on the weekend and headed down the south coast with one of my best high school buddies to hike the ‘Light to Light Track’ from Boyd’s Tower to Green Cape lighthouse. Spectacular coastline, lots of wildlife and total sense of freedom carrying all our gear, cooking on the beach & swimming in crystal clear bays. Many thanks to Navigate Expeditions 🛶 🚲 🥾 Tours for rescuing us when we had a small gas malfunction 😳😳. The best times are in nature!

This is how today rolled ! We ate cake, we knitted, we chatted about all sorts of things, we ate smorrebrod (sprinkled with Lofoten Seaweed salt) , Synnøve taught us how to perfect sock heels, we drank coffee & elderflower spritzers, we knitted some more and we planned our next knitting event … just perfect!
