Originally Chic Boutique was a market stall trading at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Canberra, selling a variety of handcrafted gifts and homewares. Since then life has become more complicated and challenging with the addition of two children to the family and Chic Boutique has evolved into a crafting and DIY page where I share my latest works of all varieties. I am interested in crafts of all type

s but especially love paper craft. I dabble in cake making with a particular focus on fondant work. I enjoy restoring and re-purposing old furniture and objects. I have recently become enamored with creating living art in the form of terrariums and acquascapes. I have been hired as an interior designer for residential and commercial locations. Above all, my biggest passion of late is creating themed birthday parties for my children; where my passion for meticulous detail, craft and baking can all come together to create a little bit of magic. I am open to inquiries by anyone who would like to engage my services for party planning, invitations, favours, decorating, treats and cakes; or you would like to order handmade items, or need help with an interior design project, or want craft classes...if you see something on my page that interests you, and you need it in your life in some way...You can contact me with any questions or proposals and we can arrange something customised to your needs. A bit of a delay in posting this cake I made in March. This one was a bit of a cheesecake shop hack. My daughter wanted a bee cake. I purchased the Cheesecake shop's Bee sting cake and then personalised it beyond recognition with white chocolate, and bee decorations from Coles. The birthday girl was very pleased with the result.

Look out for a Moana themed cake next month. Just got an order today and my mind is busy planning it 😊.

My waterfall terrarium has been a work in progress. Not all of the original plants acclimated to their new environment. Slowly I have tweaked it, pulling out dead plants and testing out other species, and the mosses are starting to really settle in. Here is a progress update. It is looking like a little piece of the Tasmanian rainforests that were such a wonderfully memorable part of my childhood. The snails seem to be pretty pleased with it; a good sign that the ecosystem is happy and healthy 🌿😊🌱

My latest terrarium project...A Wabi Kusa...which is basically a ball of substrate (aqua soil and clay) wrapped in sphagnum moss and then semi aquatic moss, with various moisture and humidity-loving plants growing out the top. This creation sits in a dish containing water. The mosses act like a sponge, soaking up the water; bringing it to the plants on the top. These can be displayed with or without a lid. I chose to keep mine under a glass cloche to stop cheeky bunnies from eating it, and to prolong the time between water top-ups. These are a great idea if you want some house plants but tend to kill them due to forgetting to water. I have had this for approximately 8 weeks now and only topped it up once. They are easy and fun to make. Give it a go 🌿 😊🌱
