Unpopular design opinion, but… trends are making our homes less personal.
There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by what’s current. In fact, trends can be a wonderful way to discover new colours, materials and ideas. I love seeing what’s new just as much as the next designer.
But when we become too focused on creating a home that looks on trend, it’s easy to lose the things that make it uniquely ours.
The most beautiful interiors aren’t necessarily the ones that follow every design rule. They’re layered with pieces that have a story, colours that evoke a feeling, artwork that means something, and materials that will become more beautiful with time.
In every project, that is a focus for me. What does this client love? Where have they travelled? Do they have things already that could be used? How can I incorporate these layers into my work? So many questions! All in a day’s work. Mx
