This year, I’m celebrating 10 years in business and 20 years since graduating in Design from RMIT.

As a twenty-something design student, I vividly remember being immensely inspired when a teacher showed us Blur Building by Diller + Scofidio - an architecture made not from walls, but atmosphere.

Even then, something about it stayed with me.
The idea that architecture could be felt more than seen.

The more I design, the more I realise spaces are never just visual.

They shape the way we breathe.
The way we gather.
The way we rest.
The way we regulate.

Over the years, I’ve become increasingly interested in how our homes influence the nervous system, often without us even realising it.

How light moves through a space.
How it sounds.
How it feels to be within it.
And perhaps even who we share it with, and the influence of their own inner worlds within our spaces.

Perhaps this is why some spaces leave us feeling deeply settled… while others quietly leave us feeling overstimulated, unsettled or anxious.

Good design goes far beyond aesthetics.
It becomes something we feel. Our Lakes House project (originally designed by my father) was reimagined by us 33 years later with a deep awareness of this - honouring natural light, honest materials, connection to landscape, and spaces that support both family connection and quiet retreat.

Perhaps it’s only in looking back that we begin to recognise the threads that have been guiding us all along.

Three days in Melbourne for Design Week and we have come home with minds & bodies absolutely buzzing. Inspired, expanded, creatively lit up… and deeply grateful.

What a privilege to immerse ourselves in thoughtful design, beautiful spaces, material innovation, and perhaps most importantly, conversation. The kind of conversations that linger long after they’ve ended.

Conversations with designers, makers, creatives and thinkers asking bigger questions.. about how we live, what we value, the future of design, materiality, sustainability, beauty, emotion, and the role our environments play in shaping how we feel.
As creatives, it’s easy to stay immersed in the doing. The delivery. The deadlines. The solving.
Stepping outside of our everyday rhythm and into spaces of possibility was such a powerful reminder of how essential creative exchange really is.

What surprised me most was not just how inspired I personally felt… but how alive. (Melbourne does that to me) There’s something incredibly energising about being in new environments, engaging in expansive conversations, and allowing space for curiosity without needing an outcome.

It made me realise how much of our aliveness can sit quietly beneath responsibility, routine, and the constant movement of daily life. Sometimes it’s about remembering parts of ourselves that have simply been waiting for more room. (I highly encourage making space for it)

Deeply grateful to the incredible creatives who shared their work, wisdom and time so generously. Now to channel all of this energy into our own projects and whats coming next.

WOW… truly beyond thrilled and deeply humbled to share that our Lakes House has been shortlisted for the Australian Interior Design Awards 2026.

To be recognised in a category I’ve long admired, alongside peers I’ve looked up to for years… it feels surreal. There aren’t quite words for it.

But more than anything, this project is special because of the people behind it.

To our incredible clients and the trust you gave us, the openness, the willingness to explore it shaped everything. What came from that is not just a project, but a relationship I’ll always value.

This home also holds a very personal story. Originally designed by my father when I was 12, to return and reimagine it decades later feels incredibly full circle.

This is why I love what I do.
Creating homes that feel deeply connected, to landscape, to light, to family.

Spaces that don’t just look beautiful, but feel like something.

Thank you to the judges for recognising this work, and to my amazing team and all the trades who poured so much care into bringing it to life.

A very special moment.

x Sophia

Today on International Women’s Day I’ve been reflecting on the journey of building Renegade Design Studio while raising my two children Beau (13) and Theo (8). Theo was born in my second year of business, and like many working mothers those early years were a blur of babies, creativity, exhaustion and determination.

There has been so much joy in building something meaningful, but also the quiet guilt that many mothers carry, the feeling of being pulled between two worlds and wondering if you’re ever quite giving enough to either.

This year Renegade turns 10, and looking back I can see how much I’ve learnt along the way, often the hard way…. about what it really means to create a workplace that supports women and nervous systems. (Watch this space)

Over the years an incredible collective of women have been part of the studio, each bringing their creativity, care and intelligence while also walking their own life journeys alongside their work.

Some of those seasons have included motherhood. Last August Olivia welcomed beautiful little Maya, and just last week Brianna welcomed baby Louie, such tender reminders of how life and work continue to weave together over time.

But motherhood is only one path. Women contribute to the world in countless ways, and every path deserves space and respect 🙌🏼

What I’ve come to honour deeply is that women are cyclical beings. We hold a lot… ideas, emotions, responsibilities and creativity. And creativity only really flows when there is space and support around us.

As Renegade moves into its tenth year (I can’t believe it), I feel incredibly grateful for the many women who have been part of this journey and helped shape the studio into what it is today.

Here’s to the women who walk beside us, the ones who came before us, and the generations still rising. ❤️🫶🏼

The dreamiest of spaces at our Lakes project is the Little Guest House.

Set right on the lakefront and gently separated from the main residence, this private retreat is connected by a new covered link pathway, creating a sense of flow while still offering complete escape.

Designed as a considered “mini version” of the main house, the renovation ensures guests feel deeply connected to the home’s overall rhythm, aesthetic, and spirit, while enjoying their own serene sanctuary.

A new orientation was introduced from the main house, along with two large curved glass windows on the lake-facing side — opening up the views and celebrating the circular form of the original home’s parapet roofline.

The addition of two separate guest rooms, each with its own beautiful ensuite, and a new hotel-style kitchenette completes the experience.

It truly ticks all the boxes. 🙌🏼

APT 27 NOOSA CREST

In September this year this enviable corner apartment at Noosa Crest underwent a complete transformation, stripped back and thoughtfully rebuilt to better reflect its incredible setting. The intention was always to create a space that felt calm, welcoming and a little luxurious, somewhere that could elevate the holiday experience for returning guests, while still feeling deeply familiar and comfortable for the owners when escaping Sydney.

A warm, restrained palette was key. Natural timbers and stone are paired with classic white VJ panelling, softened by layers of neutrals and subtle green tones that echo the landscape beyond. The spatial planning of the apartment was just as considered. Walls were reinterpreted rather than removed, fluted glass was introduced to filter light and views, and moments of joinery were designed to gently guide movement through the space, always drawing the eye back to the outlook across Laguna Bay.

What emerged is a relaxed, quietly luxurious retreat, one that feels grounded, timeless and effortlessly connected to place.

There’s an easy calm the moment you step inside our Lakes House. A project that has a quiet understated confidence… a home that knows exactly who it is. The first surprise? A lush inner secret garden that greets you at the entry, setting the tone for what feels more like a retreat than a residence. The lush green instantly calms you.

The air inside the home is fresh, part in thanks to the inner garden and to natural lime plaster walls that let the building breathe. Overhead, a cedar-lined atrium draws the outside in, offering its beautiful scent, while natural limestone feels luxuriously soft underfoot.

Australian artists made the wall lights which cast a shadows across the textures, shifting with the light throughout the day. And if you wander a little further in, you might catch the alluring glow of the wall light in the wine cellar, that’s like a siren calling a little louder to you on a Friday afternoon 😜

There’s an instant calm the moment you step into our Lakes House. A home with a quiet confidence and understated elegance that knows exactly who it is.

The internal garden and atrium at the entry of this home is the first to greet you, offering a pleasing surprise and really sets the calm vibe to carry you through. The deep green instantly soothing and inviting. Fresh air flows through the home, thanks in part to the garden and the natural mineral lime plaster walls. Overhead, the cedar-lined atrium draws the outside in with its woody scent while limestone underfoot feels soft and grounding.

Wander a little further in and the wine cellar glows with an elegant hand made light, like a siren calling a little louder on a hot Friday afternoon 😜
