Often when you walk into a gallery setting you are looking forward to a casual day out, enjoying some art or other culturally significant exhibition.
It is great we have public institutes and some private ones to showcase this work.
However, as a vision impaired designer/ maker (artist) practicing in a sight dominated paradime, I feel that access should be thought about more about for various sections of the community, specifically for those who can not see it in this case, vision impaired and blind people.
I am nearing the end of my time showcasing a solo exhibition called 'Wild Light' at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery. This exhibition showcases various works and how nature influences light and mood.
I realised after 16 years of practise where I was showcasing my work, I should try to expand accessibility, past just allowing people to feel my work and look at ways of expanding to audio description for visitors in person but also an accessible audio described 'tour' walk through.

This was made possible by RANT Arts Regional Arts Fund Quick Response Grant Funding.
The idea behind this, is to show, that if small scale sole practitioners can make this possible, why can not large scale institutes?
