☀️ Free power during the day? It’s now an option for Victorians. Check out this great explainer on how it works from the Herald Sun.

Thanks to the abundance of solar energy being generated during the middle of the day, eligible Victorian households can now access free electricity during designated daytime periods.

To take advantage, you’ll need a smart meter and you’ll need to opt in through your electricity retailer.

According to the Victorian Government, households could save up to $428 a year by shifting more of their electricity use to the sunniest and cheapest part of the day.

It’s another example of how solar, wind and storage are changing the way we generate, use and pay for electricity.

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: turn the bathroom heat lamp OFF.

Bathroom heat lamps can use significantly more electricity than a standard LED light - so when you leave them running after you’ve finished in the bathroom, you’re paying to heat an empty room. 💸🔥

For example, a bathroom unit with two 275W heat lamps uses around 550W when the heat lamps are on. Leave them running unnecessarily for an extra hour every day and that adds up to around 200kWh or nearly $100 on your energy bill for the year.

It’s such a small habit, but an easy one to change:

Shower done. Bathroom empty. Heat lamp OFF. 👏

Sometimes saving energy really is as simple as flicking a switch.
