Story time!
About three weeks ago, my boyfriend and I moved into a villa that we recently bought. It's an adorable little place with high ceilings and archways between areas. We're doing a lot to make it our own and it's taking time (as these things do), but it's getting there. I've used the stove a few times without much trouble beyond one of the burners not connecting with the clicker, so I have to manually light it (the horror!).
Last week, I decided to make a pasta bake and obviously needed the oven to do so. It took a while to figure out how to light it because it's a gas oven that also does not connect to the clicker, but I got it eventually. A few minutes later, while I was chopping veggies, I smelled smoke and opened the oven to see the bottom had caught fire. I don't have a fire extinguisher and panicked a little bit, but throwing water at it did work and didn't make it worse. That is quite fortunate because it turns out there was so much grease built up underneath the base plate, it caught fire pretty much as soon as I got the oven to light. Grease fires suck.
My boyfriend (who had been away at work for nearly two weeks) was coming home that night and I was so thankful to have someone there after all that. He helped clean up the mess the next day (because I did not want to do anything besides go to bed) and has been doing heaps around the house while I've been working.
We'll probably be able to use the oven after a massive clean, but I've just been putting that on standby for now. Pair that with the lack of food at the shops due to the floods over east and it has been difficult to make the food I wanted to for this page. It'll get better and I'll be able to make delicious food again soon enough. I now just hope everyone dealing with the weather is doing alright while I complain about not being able to find the right pasta shape.
