FOCUS: Where FOCUS goes, energy flows.

At Can Do Training, we believe that to FOCUS is to Follow One Course of Action Until Successful.

Our students all have their own unique learning styles, goals and pathways.

At the moment, some of our students have successfully completed the Occupational Search that enables us to work with our students to identify suitable jobs and future pathways that may be available to them.

This then enables us to identify gaps in skills where we can teach our students skills that are most relevant to where they wish to FOCUS.

We have another group of students working on their business plans.

Some of our students are now able to FOCUS on their job search and job interview skills.

The Transition Beyond School

One of the biggest concerns parents have is:

"What happens after school?"

For many families, finishing school can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

The structure, routine and support that school provides suddenly changes, and parents are often left wondering what the future will look like for their young person.

At Can Do Training, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to continue learning, growing and building a meaningful life after school.

Our focus is on helping participants discover their strengths, build confidence, develop practical life and work skills, and take positive steps towards greater independence.

We don't focus on what someone can't do.

We focus on what they can do.

Because with the right support, guidance and opportunities, amazing things can happen.

I like to multi task. It turns out that multi tasking is NOT productive.
I decided to mix up my multi tasking with the "Pomidoro Technique".

Today, I had to reherse a speech I am delivering tonight, "What's in a Name?"

I decided to go for a walk whilst rehearsing my speech. Does that count as multi tasking? Walking and talking? (Between zoom meetings and answering emails? Does that count as the "Pomidoro Technique?")

I'm grateful now for "tech". Once upon a time, people may have considered me to be "a bit nuts" for talking to myself. Now, thanks to "tech", it's considered to be more "normal".

I was able to add another layer to my multi tasking today when I noticed "Maggie". She was NOT sharing that rat with anyone. She made that very clear to me as she flew past, rat in beak to the nearest tree.

I became a photographer whilst rehearsing my speech, walking and talking between zoom meetings and emails.

Mother Nature at play. Hope you're having a great day today. Remember to keep smiling 😊

Multi task while you can if it works for you. If it doesn't, appreciate Mother Nature and the fact that we can smile and not take stuff too seriously.

Concentration.

Getting students to start?

This week, our challenge was getting our students to stop.

Have a break. They didn't want to.

They were engaged and motivated.

Why? They are in control of their learning. We provide a safe, nurturing, supportive environment and practical, easy to implement knowledge and skills based on our own professional and lived experiences.

As part of our Get That Job! program, we work closely with young adults to assess their strengths, interests, and support needs so we can help identify meaningful and realistic career pathways.

Today, we supported a new client recently diagnosed with ASD through this process.

Within hours of the session, we received feedback from his family that truly captured the impact of the work:

“He much enjoyed the process today. He was very animated this afternoon, which speaks volumes. This is very unusual. I’m so pleased you and he got through so much.”

Moments like this are a reminder of why this work matters.

When young people are given the right environment, structure, and support, we often see confidence emerge in ways that families haven’t seen before.

It’s not just about employment outcomes — it’s about building self-belief, clarity, and momentum for the future.

A great result today. A great reminder that meaningful change often starts with one supportive conversation.

Feedback we have precisely received from some of our students when they initially start on our programs, is, "Can we have a break please?"

Our programs are designed to ensure that all students feel comfortable and work at a pace that is aligned and in a way that is conducive to optimal learning. The answer to that question is always, "Of course, how much time do you feel that you need?"

Students are always respectful when they feel empowered. Hence the question. After all, it is THEIR class. It is THEIR learning experience.

This week, trying to get our students to take a break was the challenge.

They were TOTALLY ENGROSSED in their learning.

This is what we find all the time at Can Do Training.

We work with our students to help them achieve THEIR goals and objectives in a way that ensures learning. Our students are to be congratulated for their focus and commitment. Well done 👏 ✔️ 👍

At Can Do Training, we work with our students to help them achieve goals for life and work.

This includes awareness about healthy living. Some of our students are now researching healthy recipes for meals they can easily prepare themselves.

We look at the food pyramid and discuss the food groups to recognise the value of essential food and nutrition.

Students have fun preparing simple, healthy meals.

After the news that a school has banned a child with autism from participating in a school trip, I feel the need to write this. There are boys and girls who do not invite anyone to birthdays, for example.

There are kids who want to be on a team but don't get picked because it's more important to win than to include these kids. Kids with special needs aren’t weird, they just want what everyone else wants:

to be accepted!!
