Open the door on a burning fire and you know the risk, a puff of smoke rolling into the room.

The bypass feature on the Lopi Evergreen, Endeavor, Rockport and Liberty redirects the airflow when you start or reload, so the smoke goes up the flue instead of into your living room.

The lighting benefit is the one worth demonstrating. Bypass sends the draught straight up the flue so that first length heats quickly, the fire establishes faster from cold and starts drawing properly sooner. It makes the most difference on the larger fireboxes.

Load it before bed. Wake up to a warm house and a bed of live coals ready to go.

Every Lopi wood heater is built for a long overnight burn. Up to 12 hours on the Liberty, up to 10 on the Evergreen, Endeavor and Rockport, and up to 8 on the Answer. No 2am reloads, just a warm house when you wake.

Burn times depend on load size, timber species and dryness, your flue run and your climate. The figures above are what each heater is capable of, not a promise for every home.

The single best thing you can do for your fire is burn dry, seasoned hardwood. Here is how to tell it is ready.

Look for cracks across the cut ends, loose peeling bark, a greyed colour and a lighter weight. To be sure, split a log and test the fresh face with a moisture meter. Under 20% is ready to burn.

It also matters for safety. Wet wood coats your flue in creosote, the leading cause of chimney and flue fires. Dry wood burns hotter and cleaner, and keeps your glass clear.
