One of the biggest reasons crochet patterns feel overwhelming is because we try to read them as if every line is completely new information.

But most patterns aren’t written that way.

They’re built on repetition.

The same sequence repeated.
The same stitches repeated.
The same structure repeated.

Once you start looking for the repeats first, something interesting happens.

Instead of seeing:
“That’s a lot of instructions.”

You start seeing:
“Oh, this section is repeating.”

And suddenly the pattern feels much smaller.

Much more manageable.

Much less intimidating.

That’s one of the biggest shifts I see when crocheters start becoming more confident with patterns.

They stop trying to memorise everything.

And start looking for the structure underneath it.

The next time you open a pattern, see if you can spot the repeats before you start crocheting.

You might be surprised how much simpler it feels 💛

You Don’t Have to Start Over Every Time You Pick Up Your Hook

One of the things I've noticed over the years is that crocheters are often very hard on themselves. If they haven't crocheted for a while, they feel guilty. If they've abandoned a project, they feel guilty. If they're not as excited about crochet as they once were, they worry that they've somehow lost their passion for it. But I've started to wonder if we're sometimes asking the wrong question....

Island Unwind: A Reminder That Life Doesn’t Have to Feel So Heavy

Have you ever noticed how easily life can start to feel heavier than it needs to? Not because something dramatic has happened. Not because you're facing a crisis. But because over time, little responsibilities begin to pile up. The washing needs doing. The emails need answering. The appointments need organising. Work gets busy. Family needs support. The to-do list grows....

A lot of crocheters think the answer is finding better tutorials.

But eventually…

Too many tutorials can actually create more confusion.

Because if you don’t understand the foundations underneath crochet, you end up:
🧶 copying instead of understanding
🧶 relying on videos for every project
🧶 panicking when things look different
🧶 struggling to troubleshoot mistakes

And honestly?

That’s exhausting.

Real confidence usually starts growing when crocheters begin understanding:
✨ why stitches behave the way they do
✨ how patterns are structured
✨ what repeats are doing
✨ how to visually recognise crochet

That’s when things begin feeling calmer.

And much more enjoyable 💛

How to Make a Clock Using a Granny Square

Those that know me know how much I love clocks. I love the ticking. I love the different styles that exist. I love that they're another way to express creativitity. So it was only natural that I would eventually crochet a clock! First let me cover the items that I used: 4 ply or thinner cotton - I used Scheepjes Catona…...
