I failed with this cake 🎂🚫 Here's why..

Most of you guessed that I had either dropped the cake, which to be fair was not out of the realm of possibilities, or that the cake melted, which was also very possible in the Darwin heat! 🥵

The truth is that Cake Bake no.1 came out completely RAW on the bottom 😱 Here's my defence - It was in the caravan gas oven for FOUR hours, AND my skewer came out clean... 🫣 Riddle me that!

I discovered this at around 10pm the night before Mia's birthday, with no ingredients left to rebake 😭 So, after a little freakout that evening, Ricci raced the next morning to get me more ingredients, and I rebaked in much smaller layers! 🤏 They only took TWO hours to bake this time... 😅

I didn't have long but managed to decorate this smaller cutie cake, and Mia still absolutely loved it! 🩷 We'd even made some new travel friends, so Mia got to have a little camp kitchen birthday party! 🥳

So, moral of the story is - don't bake mud cakes in a caravan gas oven, allow yourself a moment to panic when you need, but make sure you get on with the job! 💪 You can do it!

Yes.. I'm guilty. 💁‍♀️

Both of our kids have their birthdays while we are away. What kind of cake decorator would I be if I didn't pack a mini cake kit for the road?! 😂

Mia was first up, turning 7 in Darwin this week! 😍 Rainbow and unicorn theme this year 🌈🦄

But something went wrong... Can you guess what kind of disaster I had? 🤦‍♀️👇

a) The cake melted in the heat 🫠
b) I dropped the cake 🎂
c) The cake was raw 🥴
d) I baked the wrong flavour 😬

It's been a hot minute! 😄

We are now almost 4 weeks into our trip, and let me tell you, it hasn't been lacking in excitement! 🤦‍♀️

After my last post, our caravan almost caught on fire 🔥 and our solar stopped working 🌞, so that was fun! 🥴 Grateful to have had amazing help in sorting all the issues out!

We have seen some amazing places along the way, and yes, I'm still baking! 👩‍🍳 The kids were super excited to share some of my double chocolate chunky cookies with their new camp friends! 🍪 So adorable.

✨️ Here's a quick tip for the cookie fans out there: If you've run out of plain flour and only have bread flour in the pantry, I can now confirm that it works perfectly with my chunky recipes! 🤤 Just don't overmix them!

Today can look very different for everyone ✨️

Sending a Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums, mother figures, grandmothers, step-mums, fur mums, mums-to-be, those carrying the love and memory of mothers in their hearts, those longing to become mothers and those who have experienced loss 💐 You are all seen and thought of today 🤍

I am so incredibly lucky to be spending this holiday making memories with Ricci and our kids — slowing down, adventuring together, and soaking in the little moments that mean the most ❤️

Thank you for supporting my baking business while I balance the beautiful chaos of motherhood, family, and creating sweet treats for your special moments. I hope your day has been filled with love, laughter, and a little cake too 😉🧁

Is this what they call "glamping"? 🚐🙌

I'm currently making pizza dough and pizza sauce from scratch in my in the pleasantly warm caravan 🥰

Whilst the dough is rising, I'm now thinking about dessert pizzas. Maybe I should I give that a go next time? 🤔🤤

As you know, something a bit different is happening around here 🚐

After 5 years of late nights, sugar highs, and more custom orders than I can count - our family packed up yesterday and will be spending the next 3 months driving around parts of Australia 🇦🇺

I am looking forward to coming back and fulfilling all my amazing custom orders on return. My clients mean the world to me and that's not changing. 🥰

But this trip? It's for us. And it will also give me the space to get back to the part of baking I love most - teaching it.

So while we're on the road, I'll be sharing a lot more of what I know. Recipes that actually work. Tips I teach in my classes. The real behind-the-scenes of 5 years in a cake business!

I'm looking forward to taking you on this journey too 🩷 I'll still be sharing a gazillion cake photos I'm yet to share, so stay tuned for pretty cakes as well! 🤣

Hey guys! A little update and a treat from me! 🩷

We've been busy preparing for our 3 month caravan trip, hence my lack of socials lately 🥴

As we head off on Wednesday, I'll miss making goodies for you this Mother's Day for the first time in 5 years! 🥺

So, I have 2 x choc mud raspberry cake tubs and 2 x Nutella choc mud cake tubs to give away! 🍫🍰
