Character doesn't have to mean adding more and more. Sometimes it's about recognising what's already there, keeping the good bits and adding to them in a way that feels like they could have always belonged.
This project was in an older London home, but unfortunately many of the original details had been lost over the years. So rather than trying to reinvent it, we worked to bring some of that character back, being sympathetic to the style and age of the home, while still making it feel relevant to how we live today.
And I think that's the important part when adding architectural detail to any home…
It should make sense for the house you're putting it in.
The best details shouldn't feel like they've been added as an afterthought. They should feel like they belong.

Why are we chasing 'timeless' interiors and why do we feel interiors have to be 'timeless' to be considered great design?
We’ll happily spend a fortune on a car knowing we’ll probably replace it in a few years, yet somehow we expect ourselves to renovate a home and still love every decision we made 20 years later.
Maybe it’s ok to pick pieces you love, simply because you love them and they bring you joy, not because they will still be relevant years down the line.
What do you think? Are we too obsessed with ‘timeless’ interiors?

Limewash is one of my favourite ways to add character to a home. I love that it somehow feels modern and ancient at the same time, soft, imperfect and beautifully understated.
It brings a warmth and depth to walls that you just don’t get from a flat paint finish, subtly changing as the light moves through the room.
If your style leans towards simple, pared-back interiors, limewash is a beautiful way to make a space feel layered and interesting without adding more decorative detail.
Quiet, textural and timeless. Exactly my kind of finish.

Modern and volume-build homes can often lack the little details that give a home character and make it feel more high-end and considered.
Here are some architectural details that can be added relatively easily to bring in more warmth, texture and personality — without trying to make your home something it’s not.

I will say it again and again and again… interior designers don’t just pick pretty furniture and accessories.
We help shape a home that feels considered, beautiful and easy to live in.
We think about how spaces connect, how you move through them, where your eye lands, how materials work together and, ultimately, how the whole home makes you feel.
Because a beautiful home shouldn’t just be a box filled with pretty things. It should feel like everything belongs.

I love designing kids’ rooms.
They should feel like they belong to them. Their personality, their interests, the things they love, without feeling completely disconnected from the rest of the home.
I like to give kids a say, but within a considered set of choices. Then keep the more permanent (and expensive) elements timeless, and have a little more fun with the things that can easily change.
Because what they’re obsessed with at 7 probably won’t be what they’re obsessed with at 12.
A space that feels like them now, but has room to grow with them. 🤎
