Crisp, contemporary joinery plays so nicely with the more rustic qualities of a hand made tile. I love combining textures - a gloss tile with a matt surface, a rough tile with a smooth stone top. Life's all about balance - and so is good design.

Here's what I'm looking for in a really good shower:

1. Good solid water pressure and heat. Sufficient to hold me there indefinitely.
2. Shower head at suitable height to prevent husbandly complaints. Jeez, the tall ones really don't like to stoop do they?
3. Lovely, quality finishes that feel nice in my hand and work with my colours throughout the rest of the home.
4. Somewhere practical to put my shampoo and associated gubbins. Don't come at me with a flimsy glass shelf.
5. Another option for days I really don't want to get my hair wet. (we are very busy getting 10,000 steps, lifting weights, getting enough sleep, consuming Creatine, prioritising protein, getting the optimum amount of Vit D and all the rest.... no time for daily hair drying.)
6. I absolutely do not want to get a single drop of cold water on me when I'm switching the shower on.
7. Kwolity Australian made tapware that isn't going to require a plumber any time soon to fix the annoying drip.

Honestly, that's about it. It's not that hard.

A neat little light that's not only going to land that crucial beam right in the middle of your page, but is beautifully installed into our custom bedhead. I don't even need to mention that gorgeous finish. (Swoon)

Isn't this what it's all about?

Home is a place for gathering the people you love, and forcing them to drink your cocktails and eat your paella. Or, whatever the creation you decided to attempt on the day.

Places for sitting and chatting with a cuppa.
Spots to knuckle down and get the homework done.
Places to kick back and binge an entire series on Netflix (because now you're obsessed and can't seem to work out how to make it stop without moving straight on to the next episode.)
Places for baking cakes and messing up the kitchen.
Places to linger over a long dinner and a good bottle of red with brilliant friends.
Places to dry off your wet doggy when he comes back from walkies before he jumps straight on the sofa with those paws.

It's really that simple.

If you appreciate real life, you're sick of the AI slop, you want help with your home and don't have the time or expertise to do it yourself... and... you don't think a robot can do it - you might be our people!

Sometimes, the floorplan just sucks.

Luckily awkward layouts are one of our favourite challenges. We look beyond what’s there and start asking, “What if?”

What if the bathroom didn’t have to feel like a maze? What if the ensuite actually worked? What if the whole space flowed beautifully?

More often than not, the best solution is one our clients never imagined, because they’re understandably trying to make the existing layout work.

That’s the difference good design makes. It’s not just about making a home look better. It’s about making it work better.

Look, if you don't use it, get rid of it. (Particularly if it's bringing all kinds of special '80's spa bath vibes ) This is the primary en-suite and our clients are shower people. So, we all voted for more space - less useless features!

Obviously, important to keep one bath in a family home, but otherwise I'm a huge fan of making the space suit your needs.

What Designers Really Do

Yesterday’s office was Euroluce, catching up on the latest lighting collections.

One of the biggest parts of our job happens long before we ever present a concept to a client.

We’re constantly visiting showrooms, meeting suppliers and staying across the latest collections in lighting, furniture, fabrics, rugs, flooring, tiles and tapware, so when it’s time to design your home, we already know what’s out there and can curate the perfect pieces for your space.

If you don’t have the time (or the will) to do all that research yourself... that’s exactly what we’re here for.

The single greatest source of pride in my life is the three brilliant kidlets that we've grown from tiny specks into fully fledged adults. The cruellest thing about life, is that when you achieve that goal, your dinner table is rendered horribly childless - and you have to rely on all the brilliant memories you banked along the way.

So, now I have to take pride in creating spaces for our clients (whose own kidlets have mercifully not yet reached that stage) to make their own memories in wonderful surroundings.

Shooting our Cammeray project was a real highlight recently, we've just received the photography, and I do sometimes have to pause and remind myself that ... "we did that."

When I cast my mind back to the start of the project, I recall listening to our clients describe the home they wanted to bring to life. We talked about what they loved, what wasn't working for them now, and how they'd love to imagine living in the future.

Insert here the countless hours of concept work, layout options, materials selections, colour schemes. We brought in trusted builders and trades that I've known and worked with for years. The team approached every challenge collaboratively, with the end goal up front and centre.

It's a pleasure to work with a team that gets it, inside and outside of our studio. I'm so grateful that clients trust us to get this right for them and I hope we can continue to do this for a long time to come.

So, here I am ... barefoot, cup of tea in hand - taking a moment to bask in the glory of a job well done. Thanks to all the gang who contributed!
