DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2024 - FABRICS

Here is a sneak peek at what will be trending for home interiors in 2024. Stripes will be the next style that will be all the rage next year, as forecasted by Russh Home/Interiors. From bedding to cushions and sofa fabrics. Usually, interior design trends also flow through to fashion so I am wondering if we will see this trend emulated in our clothing? I hope so as stripes are classic.

How to add a pop of colour to your home’s exterior

Splashes of eye-catching colours outside a house can remarkably enhance its kerb appeal and bring out its unique personality. Should you want to add a pop of colour to your home’s facade, you could copy any of these ideas:

Impressive front door
One of the easiest ways to incorporate colour outside your home is by painting the front door. Choose a bold hue that complements the exterior colour scheme. It will make your door stand out and become the facade’s focal point.

Colourful flowers and planters
Flowers and greenery outside the home not only add colour but also bring a lively touch. You can put them in colourful planters, flower beds, and hanging baskets to highlight their vibrant natural colours.

Matching lighting and hardware
Upgrading your home’s porch lights, house numbers, and other entrance hardware can subtly introduce colour to the facade. Use matching colours and finishes on these features for an elegant and cohesive look.

Inviting outdoor furniture
Aside from boosting visual appeal, colourful outdoor furniture helps make your front porch or yard feel welcoming. Select pieces with hues that complement your home’s exterior colours for a coordinated appearance.

Your home’s existing palette, the surrounding environment, and your preferred theme are all essential in choosing the right colour. Take time to explore different colour options and combinations before making a decision.

How to select the perfect area rug for your living room

Selecting the perfect area rug involves considering various factors to ensure it complements your space's aesthetics, size, and functionality. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you choose the right area rug:

Define the purpose of the rug

Are you looking for warmth, to define a space, reduce noise or simply to add visual appeal to a room? Your choice will decide your choice colour, design and shape.

Choose the right size

Measure the area where you plan to place your rug. Rugs should be large enough to fit within all of the furniture within the seating area. Ideally, the front legs of the sofa and armchairs should sit on the rug.

Consider the material

The material of the rug will affect its texture and durability. Common materials include wool, cotton, jute or synthetic blends. Choose a material that suits your lifestyle and budget.

Style, colour and pattern

The style, colour and pattern of your rug should reflect the interior design elements of your room. If your room has bold colours and textures, then consider a neutral-coloured rug that will balance the room’s aesthetics. Light colours will make a room look larger. Dark colours can add warmth to a room and can be the focal point of the room. A rug that has a thick, lush pile will require more maintenance that a rug with a lower pile which would be easier to maintain.

Lastly, consider your budget

Keep in mind how much you want to spend on your rug. There are plenty of wholesaler rug companies out there such as AAA Rugs Gallery at Rothwell which are always advertising sales so you could pick up a bargain.

ACHIEVING THAT HAMPTON STYLE IN YOUR HOME

Mention ‘the Hamptons’ and you’ll most likely drift off to thoughts of expansive decks, sumptuous sofas, grand mansions, beautiful beaches and lavish cocktail parties. And the history behind this popular holiday destination, and style, is just as fascinating as the images it conjures.

Read on to discover 5 essential steps to unlocking this classic style that works just as well in Australia as it does on the East Coast of America.’

1. Pattern perfection
Add extra personality to a subtle seaside palette with patterned cushions or curtains in similar hues such as blue or grey. Florals, geometric designs and ikat prints are all popular ways to add some character to Hamptons-style homes.

2. Crisp white walls
At its heart, the Hamptons look is “sophisticated, relaxed, timeless, airy and light”, says Indah Island interior designer, Natalee Bowen, an ambassador for Scyon Linea Weatherboard. The best place to start is with a fresh coat of paint, and white is always right for American East Coast style.

“Interior colours commonly associated with the Hamptons look are navy, duck egg blue, fresh white and soft greys” (Diane Bergeron Design)

3. Oversized furniture
Furnishings should be a mixture of tailored comfort and relaxed elegance. Opt for big, beautiful lamps, large sofas and glass coffee tables, suggests director Leigh Boswell of Highgate House. Check out the Hamptons-look range of furniture from Temple & Webster for suitable pieces.

4. Classic curtains
Floaty floor-to-ceiling curtains bring a romantic feel to a room and help contribute to the light and airy Hamptons look. Roman blinds or sheer curtains can soften rooms such as the kitchen and bathrooms.

5. Coastal colours
Let the seaside inspire the rest of your palette. Think soft neutrals, creamy tones, sea greens and blues – and make sure you apply them throughout. “Ensure the colour palette flows from inside to out,” says Highgate House’s Leigh Boswell. “This doesn’t mean they have to be the same colours, they just need to sit comfortably together.”
