[IN-CONVERSION] Karryn Dargie attended the panel discussion hosted by Streets People Love - Hobart on Friday evening with guest speakers Tim Jarvis, Daniel Bennett and Steven Burgess. She raised an idea, in her opinion missing from contemporary urban design conversation ~ interiors are where life in the city unfolds, they are the destination and the point of exchange, and they have a part to play in the experience of the city. Should we talk about them more when we discuss the evolution of a city. We tend to talk a lot about streets, about carparks and bike lanes but never about views out, views in, safety, thermal comfort, ventilation, natural light, sound, spatial connectivity, connection with the landscape, building maintenance and upgrades to achieve code compliance, material waste and reuse, waste management, wellbeing ~ some of the really good things that happen within buildings that have a direct bearing on how it feels to be in the city. What do you think, do interiors have a role to play in making a city?
