Making their Sydney debut, Seoul-based contemporary jazz collective DEEP MIND brings a bold, immersive sound shaped by deep grooves, layered textures and spontaneous interplay. Blending jazz with electronic music, alternative R&B and experimental influences, the five-piece creates music that defies easy categorisation.

Freyja Garbett’s ‘Music From The Waves’
“Music From the Waves” is a multi-movement suite combining electro-acoustic sonic palettes to encapsulate and audiate the synthesis between Freyja two great loves; music and surfing. The line-up features legendary Australian saxophonist, Sandy Evans, as well as one of Sydney’s finest rhythm sections with Max Alduca on double bass and Miles Thomas on drums.

RONAN APCAR in a very different light.

Join acclaimed Australian musician and composer Ronan Apcar for the launch of The Clouds Are Gathered for the Final Storm, an immersive electronic music album exploring grief, transformation, ecology, and impermanence.

Featuring the three works Bondi, Break(ing)down, and The Clouds Are Gathered for the Final Storm, the album blends synthesisers, field recordings, found sounds, and structured improvisation into expansive sonic landscapes. From the overwhelming roar of Bondi Beach in the aftermath of  the 2025 tragedy, to the fragile cycles of decay and renewal in the Australian bush, and finally an epic meditation on gathering storms and endings, these works invite audiences into a deeply personal and atmospheric journey.

Drawing on influences from ambient, experimental, and electronic music traditions, Apcar creates richly textured sound worlds that move between intimacy and vastness, beauty and unease. This special launch performance celebrates more than a year of artistic exploration and experimentation, bringing these evocative works to life in an intimate listening environment.

THIS THURSDAY-The catholics play 21 Shepherd.

The catholics are one of Australia’s most distinctive contemporary groups.

Their leader, composer and bassist, Lloyd Swanton, is well known across Australia and internationally for his work with improvising legends The Necks, as well as appearances on over 100 albums, many of them ARIA Award winners, both for The Necks, and other artists including Vince Jones, Wendy Matthews and Bernie McGann.

With The catholics (always a lower-case “c”) he assembled some of the best musicians in Australia from a wide spectrum of musical backgrounds. The intention was to rejuvenate the contemporary jazz sound with an infusion of dance rhythms from around the globe. The result is one of the freshest-sounding acts around, even after all these years.

Formed in 1991, their personnel comprises:
Sandy Evans - saxophones,
James Greening - trombone and pocket trumpet,
Julian Curwin - guitar and banjo,
Gary Daley - piano accordion, melodica, piano,
Hamish Stuart - drums,
Fabian Hevia - percussion,
Lloyd Swanton - acoustic and electric bass
