This is my entry into the Holmes Australian Realistic Bird Art Prize, "Taking Care". It came about when two buff banded rails took up residence for a short while on our acreage. It was pretty special to spot their little chick appear very briefly out of the undergrowth for a little look around before quickly disappearing again. Of all my 8 Holmes entries, half have all been created from bird encounters in my own yard, so that says something about our yard or either I don't get out much or both! Nice when you can bird from your loungeroom though. Congratulations to all the other 39 finalists and I really look forward to seeing the exhibition and catching up with old friends and meeting new.
