Road Trip – Day 4! 🚗☀️

Robe to Warrnambool today, with plenty of stops along the way!

First up was Mount Gambier’s Blue Lake, and yes, it really was blue! 💙 Absolutely beautiful.

Then across the border into Victoria, where we were greeted by a lone sheep running towards us down the middle of the road! 😂🐑 Thankfully it made it safely off the road.

Next stop was Port Fairy. What a gorgeous little town! Had a wander around the shops, a car boot picnic lunch, then explored the spectacular coastline around Griffiths Island. The black volcanic rocks, contrasting rusty-orange lichen and turquoise water were incredible.

Then on to Warrnambool, where we discovered Stingray Bay. WOW! 😍 Absolutely stunning rock formations, beautiful clear water and even managed a paddle through the shallows.

Checked into our hotel and finished the afternoon wandering around town. Found the ‘Warrny’, which will be tonight’s dinner spot! 🍻

Another fantastic day, and so many beautiful places! Tomorrow we’re off to explore the Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles, with a little market browsing first.

My inspiration list is overflowing — now I just have to bring all these ideas to life. How exciting! 💚

SA Road Trip – Days 2 & 3! 🚗☀️

A bit behind with the updates, too busy exploring! 😂

Day 2 – Adelaide to Robe

An unexpected ferry crossing, a couple of pink lakes (one that wasn’t very pink and absolutely stank! 🤢), an echidna crossing the highway and even camels in a paddock!

Arrived in Robe and WOW! What a beautiful place! The colour of the ocean is just incredible. 💙 Spent the afternoon exploring the spectacular coastline, sea caves and rock formations. So much inspiration, including one spot that’s already inspired a jewellery design I’m calling Rocky Gorge!

Day 3 – Robe & Beachport

Started the morning hunting for sea glass at Factory Bay. Well, that was a success! 😂 Came away with a selection of beautiful sea glass, some interesting shells and a few other little treasures. Already thinking about what I can make with them! 🤭

Then off to Beachport for a walk along the jetty and a stop at the impressive Woakwine Cutting.

South Australia has been absolutely beautiful so far! Tomorrow we’re off to Mount Gambier and then into Victoria.

☀️ Day 1 – Adelaide to Victor Harbor! 🚗

First full day of our holiday!

Started the morning with a wander around Adelaide, coffee and a few supplies for the road trip. Beautiful sunshine but absolutely freezing compared to Queensland! 🥶

Picked up the hire car and headed to Hahndorf for a look around. Lots of lovely little artisan shops, galleries and of course a few opal shops! 💎 Didn’t buy any stones though, they were a bit pricey! 😂

Stopped at the German Arms for a traditional German lunch before heading down to Victor Harbor, where we had a wander around Granite Island.

Now settled into our hotel with a well-earned drink and my sketchbook out!

I did pack a selection of stones and some wire-wrapping supplies, just in case inspiration strikes. 🤭

Tonight I’m playing around with a design for this Queensland boulder opal. It’s been sitting in my collection waiting for the right idea. Not sure where it’s going yet, but that’s the fun of creating!

Tomorrow we’re off to Robe, taking the scenic coastal route. 🌊💚

A while ago, I bought a couple of Herkimer diamonds—you might remember me posting about them.

I’ve been procrastinating a bit because they’re a very different shape to the stones I usually wrap. But I finally took the ‘stone by the points’ and wrapped this lil beauty! 🤭

Happy Monday! ☀️

Another Cotton Tree Market done yesterday!

It was a lovely day, although a bit gusty! A couple of my displays ended up on the ground, so I’ve got a few repairs to make when I get back. 🙄

One of my finds from Saturday’s gem show was also the first pieces to sell yesterday! 💜 Lavender Pools didn’t even make it through its first market! Isn’t she pretty!

Today I’m busy getting organised for our little road trip. We’re flying to Adelaide tomorrow and making our way along the coast to Melbourne over the next week or so. Looking forward to a bit of a break!

My online shops will stay open while I’m away, but any orders placed during this time won’t be posted until 22 October.

💎 A little gem hunting at Nambour Gemfest today! 💎

There’s something about a gem show that I absolutely love. You never quite know what treasures you’re going to uncover!

Today was no exception, and I came home with quite a collection of beautiful stones just waiting to be transformed into jewellery.

I was particularly excited to find a seller I'd bought from at a previous gem show. His Indonesian moss and scenic agates have the most incredible natural patterns, and I couldn't resist adding
quite a few more to my collection!

There were also some gorgeous Australian Koroit and Yowah Boulder opals, beautiful blue larimar, vibrant chrysocolla, mother of pearl and a few other little treasures.

One of my favourite parts of making jewellery is choosing the stones. Each one is different, and I often have no idea what the finished piece will look like until I start working with it.

Now comes the fun part — deciding what how to wrap them!

A little parcel of Australian magic!

Look what arrived in the post! 😍

Five gorgeous Australian Fairy Opals, sourced from a small Queensland supplier.

These beauties have a gorgeous dark background, scattered with tiny flashes of green, blue and even hints of red. The colours really come alive as the stones catch the light!

Fairy opal is a little different from traditional solid opal. The natural opal is found within a host rock that has been treated to darken and stabilise it, creating that lovely contrast against the naturally occurring flashes of colour.

And of course, opal is October’s birthstone, so the timing couldn’t be better!

I’m planning to wrap the very first one in silver-filled wire and I’ve already chosen a name for it — Opal Skies. 💙

I think these are going to make some rather special little pendants!
