Let’s mix a beautiful sage green!
Did you know there are many different ways to mix the same colour?
Today I’m using just three colours from our Edible Atelier Starter Set: Yellow, Indigo and White.
But why Indigo instead of our regular Blue?
It’s all about colour bias! Our Indigo leans towards violet, which helps neutralise some of the yellow’s vibrancy, creating a softer, more muted green.
A little white increases the value, giving us that beautiful, soft sage green.
Remember, colour mixing isn’t about memorising recipes or exact ratios. It’s about understanding how colours interact so you can mix intuitively and confidently.
This is just one of many ways to create sage green!
Save this for your next cake painting project.

Ever wondered why there are nine colours in the Starter Kit? Swipe through to see what each one brings to your palette.

Two blues, two reds, and yellow with orange give you different warm and cool directions for mixing. White, black and brown help you lighten, deepen and create earthy tones.

Together, they give you a versatile starting point for mixing a wide range of colours.

Watercolour techniques with edible paint

For this piece, I used Edible Atelier Fast Flow for painting, then added extra Rose Spirit when I wanted those really light, transparent washes.

It’s such a fast and effective way to build soft layers of colour and create beautiful edible art.

Save this technique for your next painted cake, and follow for more edible painting tips, techniques and colour mixing.

What if the canvas could be eaten?

A double portrait of April and myself, painted entirely with Edible Atelier paints on a canvas made from fondant.

Creating paints that behave more like an artist’s medium has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for edible art. More blending. More detail. More freedom to create work that feels like art first, cake second.

This is exactly why Edible Atelier exists. To blur the line between fine art and cake art, and see just how far we can push this medium.

Join the edible art movement.

Ever wondered why Edible Atelier exists? 🎨

After years of painting cakes, Sam saw a gap in the market for edible paints that worked more like professional artist paints — so she created them.

Whether you’re learning to edible paint for the first time or you’re already creating and want more from your paints, Edible Atelier is made to give you the colour, control and versatility to bring your ideas to life.

And if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to paint with edible paints, come along to one of our upcoming demonstrations. ✨

Keep an eye out for demo dates coming soon!
