At bmid, we determine each client’s goals and project requirements. We consider how the space will be used and how people will move through it. We’ll sketch preliminary design plans and specify materials and furnishings, such as lighting, furniture, wall coverings, window treatments, flooring, equipment, accessories and artwork. You only get one first impression. Subtlety can wait.

An entrance should tell you something about the home you’re about to enter.

At our Upper Kangaroo project, Australian botanical wallpaper and colours borrowed from the landscape draw the outside in. Pattern and texture give the entrance its own presence—and leave you curious about the rooms beyond.

Colour defines the transition from steel blue in the bedroom passage to warm earth brown in the living spaces. A vintage cabinet sits quietly against the brown, its rich timber bringing a touch of country-house nostalgia to the contemporary architecture, while a handmade wall light echoes the texture of the landscape beyond.

These are the combinations I love: colour with purpose, pieces with history, and a little unexpected company.

Beige was never really going to survive this view.

Our Kangaroo project taking shape — colour, landscape and a little bit of nerve.

By wrapping the entire room in this gorgeous earthy tone, the timber doors and windows blend into the architecture, softening the boundaries and allowing that spectacular view to take centre stage.

With the backdrop quietly unified, we can choose what sits back and what comes forward, creating a dining room made for long lunches, lingering dinners and conversations that last well beyond the final glass.

Still plenty to come.

Before the renovation, there was decoration. Lots of it.

Our apartment is still waiting patiently for its turn under the knife, but in the meantime we’ve never seen that as a reason to live in beige.

Art, vintage furniture, colour, things collected over years — and one rather overdressed goat.

Some rooms date. Others just get better with age.

Crawford Place was never designed for a moment or a trend. Art, vintage finds, bespoke pieces, unapologetic colour and an old industrial shell were allowed to rub shoulders — and occasionally argue.

Years later, it still feels fresh, a little eccentric and entirely itself.

Design for the people who live there, not the algorithm.

Always a thrill to see our work featured by House & Garden — this time on their digital pages.

Our Lucretia Avenue project was one of those lovely alignments — a beautiful Federation home, clients who trusted the design process, and a brilliant photographer to capture it all.

Old bones, new energy, vintage finds, contemporary pieces, a little mustard overhead and absolutely no fear of pink.

A home designed to be lived in, not tiptoed around. And rather lovely to see it having another moment in the spotlight.

Living in sepia dreams…

Rather than compete with the spectacular harbour view, an IKSEL mural wraps the kitchen in another landscape entirely.

In the adjoining dining room, a vintage crystal chandelier, custom table, sumptuous chairs and layers of fabric sit alongside the original Deco windows.

Nothing belongs to one particular period — and that’s rather the point. A little old, a little new, and somewhere entirely its own.

As our Kangaroo project comes together, the magic is beginning to reveal itself — so many little moments that make you pause and smile.

I believe a home should belong to its site, feel collected rather than assembled and always offer a little surprise. Here, colour, art, pattern and pieces gathered over time create something inviting, relaxed and distinctly individual.

The spectacular site was already unforgettable. Now the house is becoming its own enveloping hug.

Apparently, relaxing doesn’t have to mean beige. This art-filled home is designed to do both: open right up for a crowd, then retreat into comfortable little nooks for a cocktail or the morning paper.

Generous colour, tactile fabrics and antiques are layered through the rooms almost as artworks themselves, sitting easily alongside the clients’ extensive collection.

And then there’s me, seamlessly camouflaged in my neutral suit. Subtlety has always been my strength.
