✉️🎄 A little Christmas tradition is returning to The Dandy Lion Studio!

Remember our big red letter box? ❤️

It’s making a comeback, ready to collect all those Christmas wishes, important questions and carefully written letters for Santa.

From Thursday 5 November, you’re welcome to pop into the Studio during business hours to write your letter at our little writing station, or bring one from home and post it straight into the box.

A gold coin donation is appreciated for those using the writing station, helping us keep this little Christmas tradition going.

And for those who’d love a little something special in return, handwritten replies from Mrs Claus will be available again this year. ✨

We’re welcoming Bendigo artist Ro Windust to The Dandy Lion Studio for a special Blue Wren Painting Workshop!

And no, you don’t need to be an oil painter. You don’t even need to consider yourself an artist.

With Ro’s step-by-step guidance and a simple tracing template, you’ll build up your very own blue wren, learning colour, layering and texture along the way.

All materials are provided, and you’ll head home with a finished painting of one of our favourite little Aussie birds. 💙

This little one is the tiniest of the bunch, so he’s getting a little extra love to help him keep up with his siblings. 💛

Ever wondered why a painting can have all the right colours — but still look a little… flat?

It often comes down to tone and value.

That’s why Raylene is starting Term 4 Oil Painting with grisaille — working entirely in shades of grey before colour enters the picture.

Without colour to distract us, we can really focus on light, shadow, form and getting those values right. Then, when colour is introduced, the painting already has a solid foundation to build on.

It’s a great way to start working with oils — whether you’re new to painting or wanting to strengthen the skills you already have.

Art Explorers is our weekly creative class for ages 5–12, where the projects change, the materials change and there’s plenty of room for kids to put their own spin on things.

Painting, drawing, collage, construction, mixed media, experimenting with materials… basically, we don’t make them pick just one favourite.

And no, they don’t all have to make the same thing.

What the hell is a blending brush actually for? 🎨

These 118B Blending Brushes are designed for creating soft, smooth transitions in your paint — blending colours together, softening edges and building those lovely gradual changes between light and dark.

They’re particularly useful for oils and acrylics, where you want to manipulate the paint without leaving obvious brush marks.

The pointed shape gives you a bit more control than a big flat blending brush, so you can work into smaller areas while still getting that lovely soft finish.

I’ve brought them in in sizes 6 & 10 — because sometimes you want to blend a tiny bit… and sometimes you mean BUSINESS. 😂
