MEZUZAH MONDAY — it was lovely to meet my first Etsy customer face to face, at the National Conference of the National Council of Jewish Women last week.

Choosing my signature ‘Windows’ mezuzah, she told me it was the first mezuzah she had ever purchased, prompted by October 7. Hearing that stayed with me — a small, hopeful gesture born out of something so painful.

The conference brought together women from across the Australian community and beyond, and over two days I heard so many of their stories, both on and off the stage.

Thanks to National president Lynda Ben Menashe for putting on such an impressive conference and for the opportunity to display my work, and to my co-board members for their ongoing support.

My ‘Windows’ mezuzah is now available on my Etsy store RSCollectionbyRuth, alongside other mezuzah designs.

SHABBAT SHALOM…a little light for a new chapter.

Looking for a Bat Mitzvah gift with meaning? I have designed these petite Bat Mitzvah candlesticks with girls of Bat Mitzvah age in mind as they begin to create their own rituals.

Choose from a selection of colourful flower tops, each one giving the pair its own personality. The glass candle holders can be used with glass toppers and candles or tea lights.

A keepsake to mark the occasion now, and to bring out again and again over the years.

Find them in the RS Collection on Etsy — RSCollectionbyRuth

And many more colours available! DM me for inquiries.

SHABBAT SHALOM…

I’m so excited to be presenting my Judaica collection this weekend at the National Council of Jewish Women Australia conference.

It all began some years ago when I designed my contemporary Shabbat candlesticks… with Kiddush cups, challah cloths and more added along the way.

Around the same time, I started running some events at the National Council of Jewish Women in Sydney, making Days for Girls sanitary items. This eventually led to a permanent committee and a seat on the board.

Here I am eight years later… still making, still volunteering, still on the board and loving it all. I feel so encouraged and supported by many amazing, smart, get-up-and-go women. Such a blessing.

I am so looking forward to sharing my work and meeting everyone this weekend. I’m sure it will be inspiring!

You can also find my work in my Etsy store… RSCollectionbyRuth.

MEZUZAH MONDAY…Tzaf in Hebrew means - To float. To rise to the surface. To emerge.

There is something quite meaningful about a mezuzah being a small object on the surface of the home — visible, but containing something unseen inside.

This Shin Tzaf mezuzah is now making its way onto doorways well beyond Sydney…including this beautiful home in New Jersey.

A little piece of handmade Judaica, travelling from my treetop studio in Sydney to homes around the world.
Such naches! 😊

MEZUZAH MONDAY… introducing the ‘Flame’ and ‘Tefer’ (stitch) mezuzot. Both designs are inspired by natural and handmade rhythms — the ‘Flame’ reflects the shape and shifting gradations of a candle’s flame, while ‘Tefer’ draws on my love of weaving and stitching motifs.

Lots in production right now, getting ready to head to in New York.

MEZUZAH MONDAY…

Do you see what I see?

From the caves at Beit Guvrin to the National Library in Jerusalem, I find myself drawn to places that quietly echo my own aesthetic and style.

The interesting part is that every one of these mezuzah designs was created long before I visited either place. Seeing familiar forms, textures and rhythms reflected back at me feels less like inspiration and more like recognition.

Perhaps we are all drawn to the same timeless language of line, light and shadow.

MEZUZAH MONDAY…every mezuzah begins as a simple slab of clay in my Sydney studio before being carefully cut, shaped, etched, glazed and fired.

Each design is inspired by the idea that a mezuzah is more than an object on a doorway. It is a quiet daily reminder of identity, tradition and home.

It is especially meaningful to see my work represented by the Sydney Jewish Museum Shop, and to know these pieces will find their way into homes around Australia and beyond.

Thank you to the Sydney Jewish Museum Shop for sharing my work. 🤍
