I feel my brain is going to explode with the amount of ideas I have coming in and I simply can’t do it all at once. The studio is filled with creations and concepts, all moving towards the final destination, and all somehow chaotically colliding into one dream.

I know this is just the beginning and sometimes you need to stop and remind yourself of the beauty of something unfolding and not just thinking about the end bloom

It’s been a huge two months for the studio and I want to know your thought’s! 🙂‍↕️💭

The garden is now worn. The blooms get closer than ever before. Fifteen years of the studio gathered into one book. And a letter arrives from a very chatty Sydney morning. Here’s what you’ve missed this month in the ROBERTSONKUR Studio Journal

Just Landed! Read full Journal: link in bio

Dear friends,
We’re writing this from the studio in Sydney. It’s mid-morning, there’s a coffee on the table, and the birds have been incredibly chatty this morning, the kind of morning that makes you forget how much there is to do. Life has picked up its pace again, and some days we don’t know where to grab hold first.

But we wanted to write to you anyway. For almost two months now, we have been quietly working in the background. Maybe we should have posted more and let you into our little garden a little sooner, but we have been busy planting many seeds and cultivating new ideas. There’s a fair bit on the table right now. New sketches, new designs that are starting to take real shape, and a few new artworks underway too.

Our first mini coffee table book, THE MAKING OF ROBERTSONKUR, gathers photos taken by Kurt Robertson on his iPhone or Canon 7D since 2011. Out of the thousands of images stored across fifteen years, Kurt has selected a few hundred, early studio setups, unseen sketches, references that shaped art and life, from lions to art, and all the places life has taken the studio.
Soon, on our website.

A NEW EXPRESSION : THE BLOOM CAPSULES

Big, breathtaking blooms have always been our thing. Walls you walk into have always been the way. Pieces that make you tilt your head back and stop you in your tracks are what we always wanted.
It’s no secret that we love scale, and we always will. But big takes time, and time means few. So this year we sat down and asked how we could express our blooms in a new way. We wanted to create something that spoke loudly but felt intimate and dear, something that sits in the contrast of softness and edge.

So we did it. Meet the Bloom Capsules. Same garden. New expression, and scale.

Travel and wildlife from travels in Australia and South Africa

Pages from what’s to come in our mini book

Runways over rugby, every time. That was always the tell.
As a kid, there was nothing like the feeling of watching the top fashion houses show off their new collections. It wasn’t just a magical way of seeing art expressed in wearable ways, it

Where The Garden Begins (Waar Die Tuin Begin) is the most personal and spatially ambitious work the studio has undertaken to date. Completed in 2026 as part of a larger private commission for a collector in the Cape Winelands, South Africa, the work marks a significant expansion of the Peony Garden series, moving the language of the studio beyond the canvas and into full architectural scale.

The work does not depict a garden. It proposes one. Conceived for a specific space and a specific life, it carries the foundational visual language of the series, layered surface, controlled gesture, ink movement held in tension, while extending that language into something larger than any single work before it had attempted.

Its title is deliberate. Not the garden but the beginning of one. A threshold rather than a destination. It signals quietly that what ROBERTSONKUR is building extends beyond any single room, any single collection, any single work, toward a world still unfolding.

That this work found its home in South Africa is not incidental. Charisse, Kurt’s wife, was born there. A studio born in Australia, a collector rooted in the Cape, and a life built between two countries, meeting in a single work. It is the beginning of a collection with deep personal roots in South African soil. This is where that world starts.

Held in a private collection, Cape Winelands, South Africa. 2026.

A stress I didn’t know existed until now… After a total of two months of travel time, a month of that held in South African customs. Having absolutely no idea where, what and if my work would land safely and in one piece. I had the pleasure of delivering this commission in South Africa this month. A stressful but exciting time for the me to see my work outside of Australia!
