A good design brief isn’t a mood board.
It’s not a Pinterest folder.
And it’s definitely not “I just want it to feel nice.”

A brief that actually works includes:

✔ How you use each room … morning, evening & weekends.
✔ Who’s in the house and what they need.
✔ What’s not working about the space right now.
✔ Any non-negotiables (yes, the dog counts!!)
✔ How long you’re planning to stay.
✔ A realistic sense of your budget range.

When a client walks in with answers to these, we can hit the ground running.
When they don’t, the first few weeks are spent figuring it out together … which is fine, but slower.

Save this if you’re planning a reno.
Come back to it when you’re ready to start.

Every new client conversation starts the same way for us.

It’s not straight up with, “what’s your budget?” or “what’s your style?”

We ask: “What’s not working right now?”

Because that’s where everything starts.
The frustrations, the workarounds, the things people have just accepted as normal … that’s the brief.
That’s the problem we’re actually solving.

A home that looks amazing but still drives you crazy every morning hasn’t done its job.

So if you’re thinking about working with a designer, start there. Write it all down.
Every single thing that bugs you about your space.
That list is gold.
