In Persian art, the combination of birds, eye leaves, and octagons is most famously associated with the Gol-o-Morgh گل مرغ (Flower and Bird) style and the geometric complexity of Persian rugs.

This single piece is a Mafrash and is best thought of as a form of textile furniture with the same function as a chest. Mafrash are used by tent dwellers in most areas of Turkey in the weft-wrapped or slitweave technique. Mafrash are used for storing clothing, materials and bedding, and it is essential for every girl to possess a pair when she marries, to contain her very personal possessions. She will therefore weave these as early as she is able, often at the age of six or seven assisted by her female relative, with as much loving and care and skill as possible.

This particular Mafrash is from Azerbaijan. The beautiful red, orange, and marron with the Azari sigils is a unique masterpiece for a floor for your daughters bedroom.
