As a Sydney based brand, we’re proud that so much of what we create begins with objects found in our local op shops.
Places like Vinnies and Salvos have always been some of our favourite places to source materials. We love finding things that have already lived one life, taking them apart, cleaning them, and imagining what they could become next.
But what makes sourcing this way even more meaningful is knowing that the money we spend there goes beyond simply buying materials. Vinnies shop revenue helps support people experiencing hardship through services including food, housing and homelessness support, financial assistance and domestic and family violence services. Salvos Stores directs 100% of its profits to The Salvation Army’s community programs supporting Australians facing hardship.
So when we choose an old necklace, a forgotten ornament or a strange little object from an op shop, it becomes part of a bigger cycle.
Someone donates it. We find it. Our purchase helps support the community. And instead of becoming waste, the object gets another chance to become something completely new.
We feel very lucky to build 52hz Lab this way, right here in Sydney.
