About Briony

Briony Fitzgerald comes from a strong visual lineage. Her mother, interior designer Ann Gyngell, worked with and continued the legacy of the iconic Australian interior designer Marion Hall Best, fore-founder of Sydney's modernist movement, Best's hallmark was her adventurous and wildly sophisticated use of colour. Briony carries on this inherited notion within her work and playfully

notes that beige – both as a colour and a concept – does not register in her vocabulary; Briony believes that colour uplifts interiors and exemplifies this through her bold and unwavering use of textiles, glazing walls and ceilings, colourful textured surfaces + glossy front doors – these elements speak louder to Briony than any other aspect of design. Her expert coordination of colour and light can significantly change the ambience of a space. Briony opposes the promotion of what she calls 'fast design' as the time and effort put into the design of a home, or any bespoke piece, is reflected in the result. The level of energy and thought she dedicates to an interior space is what sets the beautiful houses she creates apart. Briony's strength lies in her ability to juggle a client's vision with her own knowledge of what will work within a space. She is a designer who has the ability to read a client's taste, needs and desires and interpret and reflect them in a way they may never have imagined.
