Lock and load on our totally epic winter kiln load that we are calling ‘Dales de-constructed shed’. It took some doing….in fact months…. with lots of critical Zeddy Koolie-dog supervision 😁
The load mostly features F17 grade construction timbers in 4.5m lengths that once dry are destined for the construction of Dales ancillary sales shed and timber workshop.
The main cuts are 215 x 40mm for the rafters, 155 x 40mm for the perlins, 155 x 48mm for the wall girts and 120 x 40mm for the ceiling joists. Most timbers are Tassie Oak - stringy bark but we included some swamp gum to see and compare the difference. There are also three shorter 2.4m packs to ‘fill the gaps’ in the kiln drying configuration to promote even drying. The infill packs are mostly non-F17 cuts and include live edges or complex grains from upper tree segments and will be destined for craft or furniture creations. All the timber is sourced from four carefully selected trees on the Sharpes Siding property.
The load is certainly our largest and with the shorter days of winter well on the way, the low solar input will mean the timbers will dry slowly over a period of around four to five months. Onwards to the next challenge!!
