Have had a reasonably productive day, in between procrastinating 🤔
I have started the background painting for my second piece in the series I've called "In The Shallows Collection" This will be a mixed media piece. A sand textured base, done, with multiple layers of paint and resin for the whale and her calf, then a layer of sculpted translucent resin over the top to create a shallow water effect. The first in the collection was a whale Shark. Both pieces are 30x40cm.
I also did some more background blocking of colours for the base layer of my Pelican Seascape piece I'm working on. This will be my first attempt at painting a marine bird, actually any bird 🙂 this piece will be in acrylic paints and measures 80cm x 60cm.
I also have completed the chess board sections for two Ocean inspired chess sets I'm currently working on. They have both turned out very similar in colour but also different. The marine animal in the base sculpted resin section are different and one of the chess boards has glow in the dark powder. I had left over resin so that created a glow in the dark frog. Resin is way too expensive to waste. Last year I made only one chess set and that sold so fast. This year I plan to make three sets, these two and a circular one. I Need to get more deep pour resin to begin the third one. The best of the three I plan to enter into the 2027 Victor Harbor Art Show.
Stay tuned as there is still a lot of work to be done on all pieces.

Last Sunday and today I've been working on two ocean inspired chess sets, the one that turns out the best will be exhibited and for sale at the 2027 Victor Harbor Art Show. Each one I create is unique. My first one won 1st Place Ocean themed creation at Port Elliot Show and sold at the VIP preview for the 2026 Victor Harbor Art Show.
Left over resin from chess set number 3 wasn't wasted, I poured it into a frog mold and painted between layers.
I'm also currently working on an acrylic painting for a commission piece. Will share work in progress photos soon.

Those that know me know that I'm not really into flowers as such. Well not from a painting point of view and I kind of have the kiss of death for real ones 😂 either not enough tlc or too much water etc. It's not that I don't like flowers, they are lovely, some smell beautiful and I especially like tropical and native flowers.
Today however i gave it a go, at an acrylics art workshop. It was a gift for my daughter, a mother and daughter painting session.
I must say it hasn't turned out as bad as I thought it would. We had a picture for reference but put our own individual twist to. I decided to go abstract and let the paint take me where it wanted to, using the reference picture purely as a guide.
It's not finished, still needs more highlights, more shadows and a little more detail.

Managed to get a little more done on my current abstract acrylics painting. It's now entering the ugly stage where I have to remind myself to believe in the process 😁 and not get disheartened. Time to let this layer dry and continue after work tomorrow afternoon.

I have another acrylic painting started also. This is what happens when I have some blank canvases lying around, not feeling the vibe to make some wood cradle boards and just want to have a some fun, in between creating my show pieces. Again it's just the base layer of paint so far and a little texture but I'm thinking beach vibes with this one. Not sure yet if I'll do just a beach or possibly an abstract beach scene with a surfer girl. Will see where the next few layers of paint take me.

Yesterday was the final day of a hectic couple of weeks working 10 days straight, including three 11 hr shifts in a row and trying to get all my paintings done and delivered to the Goolwa Art Show.
My Triptych wasn't completely cured but I had to live with that, as time had run out to be able to wait any longer. I managed to get the hanging hardware on all three pieces, load them into the car and only just made it to the venue with two minutes to spare.
To say I was exhausted mentally and physically was an understatement. I slept like a baby, alarms turned off as not working today and managed to sleep in until 7am.
After a lazy start to the day, well deserved if I may say so myself 😏 it was then time to get painting.
I added some detail to one of the unfinished Incognito Art Show pieces. Once it has dried I can then paint the area I have added texture to and then that piece will be complete. I have also poured some resin for the other unfinished piece, which I'm hoping to add to the base piece tomorrow after work. I'm hoping to get them finished then all three packaged and posted off to Sydney by the end of the week.
This afternoon it was then time to have some fun and get messy. Time to start working on a piece with no real intention of what it will be or if it will be a show piece or not. Time for some art therapy.
I decided to have a play with acrylic fluid art pouring over some applied texture. Of course my inspiration was the ocean, therefore I used various shades of blues, turquoise and white. Keep in mind that this is just the base layer. There will be multiple acrylic paint layers added and detailing down the track. As I can't share my Incognito Art Show pieces yet, I thought I'd share my progress of this piece with everyone.
Now that it is dried I'm thinking possibly an abstract piece with a couple of green sea turtles hmm will procrastinate and think on it a little. This is what it looks like so far.

Well it's the day I need to take my three paintings down to the Goolwa Art Show.
"The Wave" Diptych is ready and hanging wire attached to both pieces.
"Whale Shark -" In The Shallows Collection" is ready with hanging wire attached.
"Surfer Girl Surfboard" Triptych is not so ready 😕 I'm leaving it in my lounge room with the heater on and I'll have to cross my fingers it is cured by the time I get home from work, if so I will have just over 30 minutes to attach hanging wire to all three pieces then head down to the painting recievals stressing a bit now 😁
