It is true. . our closing down sign might have been a give away 🤣 Post Industrial Design will be winding up and our last day of trade will be the 19th of August. We are sad to go but excited too! Thank u from the bottom of our heart for everyones support. We will miss being part of our shopping strip community . . . but to quote the great Gough Whitlam ‘It’s Time’ 🙂
This really would have to be the hardest post I have had to write, and to be honest I am not quite sure where to start, so perhaps I should start at the beginning . . . back in 2010 when we first took on the space in Barkly street. We were embraced by neighbours who showered us with produce from their gardens and the odd gin & tonic on a Friday night 😉 This set the tone for what has been the most fabulous journey over the last 13 years.
What a ride it has been! We are so proud of what we have achieved. We couldn’t have had so much fun without our fabulous creative, co-conspirator’s 😉 A big shout out to the late-great Sarah Watt who held the first exhibition at Post Industrial Design. Sarah was not only an exhibitor, but a dear friend, who encouraged me to take the leap of faith and open Post Industrial Design in the first place.
Other Artists I need to acknowledge include Aaron Maguire for his fabulous photography. Alexandra Chambers (aka Clockwork Butterfly) who co-produced our Steampunk exhibition, Steamscape. Warren Kirk who took a bit of convincing that his photography was exhibition worthy and now has 2 published books under his belt 🙂 Baby Guerilla who’s work has gone on to become synonymous with our urban landscape. Jessica Dean and Marc Eden who wrote and illustrated Gertrude. Jessie Deane, textile artist (Yes we have exhibited two Jessie Dean(e)s - go figure) who’s urban industrial landscapes are out of this world. Textile artist’s Gaye Naismith Naismith and Melanie Hill who graced us with their abstract landscapes and hand sewn treasures. Betty Ennis, (aka bettybossyboots ) who is finding her way onto the coolest of catwalks and exhibitions with her bespoke artisan boots. Silvia Rotundo whose work is as joyous as she is. Heidi Weber who’s recent exhibition at Rubicon Galley is jaw droopingly incredible. Not to forget philippariddiford who’s abstract colourful prints have brought vibrancy to many a home in the west.
Our performing co-conspirators included the incredible Miss Friby whose is soon to be touring France. The Artificial Limb who’s electronic beats will woo any body into rhythmic motion. Womens Circus who continue to do fabulous things in the west. Rebecca Spalding who knocked us out with her powerful vocals. Leo Dale , Martin Elepans and Madame Sainson who brought us a WEFO Resistance. The Mercurials with Mark Ferrie, Adi Sappir and Andrew Pendlebury who filled our space with their sweet tunes.
A HUGE thank you to all the makers and designers out there who have stocked our shop. Its been so lovely working with such creative people.
And what would Post Industrial Design be without Carrol Thurley! The incredible Carrol who keeps everything together like glue! 😍
To our biggest co-conspirators Fiona Marment and Jess Haire from Pod Cafe, thank you. What a beautiful energy you both brought to the space.
Anyway we are around for a bit longer so come and say hello ☺️✌️🙏
