This is me! Welcome to all our new followers.

Tomorrow I will be another year older!

I retired last year from nursing after 42 years.

I've been married to Stephen for 9 years. He is very Aussie! I have two grown up sons and five grandchildren.

Toby is our Golden Retriever and we have a moggy cat who decided she liked the look of us during the covid lockdown.

We live beside the water in Woy Woy, a stunning part of the Central Coast, NSW.

Ruby's Home Store moved out of home in January to a designated fulfilment centre. However we still store a lot in our garage and it does tend to spread all over the house!

I moved to Australia in my forties and although I love Australia I missed certain things from home. People mainly but shops came in 2nd.

There is a certain nostalgic and quintessential British style that I wanted to replicate. I hope you agree that can be found at Ruby's Home Store along with quality and old fashioned customer service.

When I first started Ruby’s Home Store, I really didn’t know what it was going to become.

I chose things I liked, tried different products and gradually figured it out as I went along.

There was certainly no clever master plan. 😂

But somewhere along the way, I found myself choosing more and more British products simply because they were the things I missed from home.

And then something lovely happened.

I realised my customers missed them too. ♥️

Over the years I’ve received so many messages and reviews telling me that something they’ve bought has reminded them of their childhood, their family, their grandparents or simply of home.

And I think that’s when I really understood what I wanted Ruby’s to be.

Yes, I sell homewares and gifts.

But sometimes a mug isn’t just a mug.

Sometimes it’s a memory.

And as someone who lives on the other side of the world from where I grew up, I completely understand that feeling.

Looking back at these early photos makes me smile. Ruby’s has certainly grown up a lot.

It just took me a while to work out where it belonged.

More things you might not know about me… 😂

I loved doing the last one of these, so I’ve been trying to think of a few more things I haven’t told you.

There’s a marathon, a rather questionable musical career, a LOT of dogs and a very lucky win.

I won my flights to Australia at a jobs fair. ✈️🇦🇺
I had no idea I'd entered a draw when I bought tickets. The poor lady on the phone spent a long time convincing me. But it was a sign that moving here was the right thing to do.

In 2005, I ran the New York Marathon. 🏃‍♀️🗽
Very slowly 😂 but I raised a huge amount of money for a breast cancer charity, which was the important bit.

I played the flute in the school band. 🎶Can you spot me?
Although “played” might be stretching it. I mimed most of the time. 😂

Growing up, we had a LOT of dogs. 🐶This was a photo from the local paper when we had a particularly big litter.
Red Setters, English Setters and later Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

It’s funny when you start looking back at your life and remembering all the random things you’ve done along the way.

As for the flamingo! That's a story for another day. 🤣

Some of these feel like another lifetime now!
