Okay, so apparently 7 pieces of clothing can make 20 outfits.

Which sounds like absolute BS.

Until you actually do it. 😂

I used ChatGPT to create the Lookbook in this carousel and honestly… I was a little offended by how many outfits we could make from so few clothes.

But then I thought…

Because getting dressed shouldn’t feel like a toxic relationship.

And apparently having 147 things to wear does not, in fact, mean you have something to wear. 😂

Some things need to go because they’re uncomfortable.

Some because they don’t fit.

Some because they make you look like you’ve accidentally joined a different decade.

And some because every time you put them on, you start a 14-minute internal debate that ends with you wearing the same black pants you wore yesterday.

Let them go.

You don’t need more clothes.
You need more outfits from the clothes that actually work.

So stop giving precious closet real estate to the things that are stressing you out, making you feel frumpy, or waiting for some imaginary future version of you to finally wear them.

Your closet is not a retirement village for clothes. 😂

Keep the pieces you love.
Keep the pieces you actually use.
Keep the pieces that work hard for you.

Then make them work harder.

Because when you know how to combine your clothes properly, 7 good pieces can become 20 outfits.

Less stuff.
More outfits.
Less “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR.”
More “Oh look, I accidentally look fabulous.”

At some point, your closet quietly became an archive of your Pre-Era

Pre-Baby You

Pre-Peri You

Pre-Covid You

Pre-Career-Change You

Pre-Sensible-Shoes You

Pre-I-Have-To-Be-Home-By-9:30 You

And of course

Pre-I’ll-Definitely-Fit-Back-Into-That You

Meanwhile, Current You is standing there at 7:12am trying to find one bloody pair of pants

This is why closets get so overwhelming

We think we are storing clothes

We are actually storing identities

Old ones

Future ones

Fantasy ones

And a few that probably should have been retired with low-rise jeans

So when I reset a closet, I use 2 questions

L = Do I LOVE it?

Not “it’s fine”

Not “I used to love it”

Not “I paid too much for it”

Do I love wearing it now?

Then

U = Do I USE it?

Does it belong in the life I am actually living?

Not the life I had

Not the life I might have

Not the life of the woman who apparently goes to rooftop cocktails every Thursday in 6-inch heels

My actual life

And if the answer is no?

X = It EXITS

That is the LUX filter

Love it

Use it

If not, let it exit

Because the real question is not

“Could I still wear this?”

It is

“Does this deserve space in the life I have now?”

Current You is not the consolation prize

She may be a little more beige than expected

She may own sensible shoes

She may get wildly excited by pockets

She may consider a successful night out one where she is home before the Uber surcharge kicks in

Fine

Make beige look expensive

Make sensible look fabulous

Make your current life fit you so well that you stop waiting for some previous or future version of yourself to take over

This is your era

Dress for it

And if Pre-Era You wants her clothes back, she can submit a request in writing
