You can just feel the air shift, birds chirping, grass growing and the sky feels that bit bluer all of a sudden. The joyous shift to spring from winter, a lift in mood, warmth and growth. The days are just warm enough to sit or lie in the sun and cool enough for a good night’s sleep.

When the urge for a picnic, a backyard get-together or a camping excursion strikes, we’ve got all sorts of useful things that make the outdoors comfortable. Wool blankets lined with oilskin to keep the cold and damp out, old-fashioned wicker baskets & utensil jars for carrying snacks or supplies in style, recycled timber platters for piling high with lunch and snacks, and brass chapati boxes for treasures, bikkies or cheese. Add rattan wine carriers and sturdy cheese knives with antler handles, and you’re sorted for long, lazy meals in the sun.

The simple joy of picnicking outside and making memories for a lifetime is one of the joys of school holidays. Make those excursions even better with the best gear from Merchant Campbell - the kinds of bits and pieces that come in handy every season, especially when the outdoors is calling.

¡Hola Hermoso! With Father’s Day just around the corner, perhaps it’s time to spruce up the old fella’s wardrobe!

Our much-loved genuine, Argentinian-made capybara polo belts are ready for your next adventure. And if you or your fella are anything like someone I know, you’ll be keen as mustard to keep your strides up with something as fabulous as one of these!!

Made from sueded capybara leather, these belts are soft yet incredibly durable, with a texture that’s unique to these belts. Each one is hand stitched in Buenos Aires saddleries, finished with a sturdy brass buckle, a distinctive belt loop, and a little Argentine flag tucked inside the buckle.

It’s all in the details: finished edges, quality craftsmanship, and a style and durability that stands out from the crowd.

Father’s Day is nearly upon us (Sunday 6 September, for those still pretending otherwise), and this week we’re giving the wonderful men in our lives their proper due. The dads, the grandfathers, the father figures: the ones who fix things we didn’t know were broken and claim they need nothing while wearing proof to the contrary.

Now, no two dads are the same, so we’ve shopped for them by type. The Party Dad, forever presiding over the drinks. The SNAG Dad, sensitive, new age, and secretly everyone’s favourite. And the Tidy, Back Entrance Dad, keeper of the boot room and its many systems. Whichever one lives at your place (some houses have all three in the one man), we have answers.

A good old back scratcher. A shoe horn, which he will use every single day and wonder how he managed without. Teak pencil boxes, and all sorts of other things he’d never buy himself but will quietly refuse to part with once they’re his.

Plenty of time. But we both know you’ll enjoy having it sorted early!

August 26 is International Dog Day! I got a bit carried away with Dolly yesterday and forgot to post this. 😬 But…….I have some very important news from our household that I’d like to share with you. 🐾

There is a wee corgi pup on the way to Bookham to join Mouse in ruling the roost at Talmo. Arriving on Monday, little Augie (as in August, the month of his arrival) is already beloved. Look at those photos and tell me you wouldn’t be in love too. We’re very excited.

We’re not sure how Mouse will take the news. There could be a rebellion. Watch this space!!

I’m also taking this opportunity to let you all know that our famous and much sought after rock dog bowls (see later slides) will be in the shop in November, God willing. DM me with your phone number if you’d like to be popped on the waiting list.

And don’t forget about our fabulous dog collars, beautiful bowls and pet beds and more that we carry in store - man’s best friend deserves to be spoilt!

Anyway, happy International Dog Day for yesterday. 🐶

An incredible woman has left us, but the world is a greater place for having had her amongst us. A role model, a true feminist and a kind, generous, fearless and loving heart. Dolly was a gracious woman who lived a life of colour and showed that where you were born does not have to decline your destiny.

We all have our own fond & precious memories that are book marked with her songs. I love her sense of humour, humility and honesty.

Thank you, Dolly, for the joy and happiness you brought us all.

Monday! The day I set up the entire week before it runs away from me....

Race into town bright & early for Pilates and then the weekly marketing meeting in mabel’s with a double macchiato & : content, emails, what’s coming up. And tucked in the middle of it all, the good bit. Choosing Pantone colours and prints for our Christmas blockprint collection (yes, Christmas, in August!). Sitting there selecting beautiful patterns and colours will never, ever feel like work!

Then shooting off to the shop for a catch up with Sarah. More planning. More organising. Home with a boot full of dog food for the kelpies, life admin waiting, spreadsheets, stock ordering, emails and Monday’s washing. Blue RB Sellars shirts, mostly. Blue RB Sellars shirts, always.

Off to the shed for stock, then our annual HILDA Living in Australia survey (which we’ve been doing now since it started - around 25 years), washing off the line and then dinner - meat loaf tonight! Phew!

All with my mate Mouse, the sable corgi, by my side. 🤍

Lots of jobs ticked off but not enough. Mañana!

How was your Monday? 🤎

Our finely woven atta placemats have one of my favourite stories in the whole shop.

Atta is a wild grass from the eastern mountains of Bali and Lombok. It isn’t cultivated at all. It’s harvested by hand, and it’s not an uncommon sight to see someone walking the roadside, sickle in hand, a bundle of grass over their shoulder. After weaving, the placemats are cured over the village fire of coconut husks and wood. That’s what gives them their durability, their lovely honey colour, and the faint scent of woodsmoke. Isn’t that wonderful?

They’re gorgeously tough and durable. On a plain table, over a tablecloth, outside for long al fresco lunches, in the country, the urban jungle or beachside. They’re at home anywhere.

The ones in these images are 30cm round. We have 25cm round plus two sizes of rectangular ones coming from Lombok, due November, so if our current stock doesn’t suit, let me know, and we’ll pop you on the order list for the other sizes.

Sometimes I find a piece in my travels that’s a show-stopper. Unique. A one- off. Very special. This is one of those pieces! ♥️

A hand painted red teak chest from Rajasthan with the most wonderful curved, cup-shaped silhouette. You simply won’t find that shape in anything mass-produced. Ring pull handles on every drawer, delicate painted florals across every surface, and there is exactly one of it in existence.

Pop it in a hallway, beside a bed, or anywhere a room needs a lift. It’s furniture and it’s art, and honestly it may not be here long.

In store now, or find it online at merchantcampbell.com.au 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

Did you know these gorgeous teak candle stands started life as hand-seeders? Indian farmers used them for generations to sow seed into freshly tilled soil, and you can see every year of that working life in the patina of the timber.

This is a new style of vintage carved seeder candle base - bigger than our original, other style which we also still carry. We’ve since retro-fitted these larger beauties with a metal base to hold a candle, so a genuine piece of agricultural history now earns its keep on your mantel piece or table.

Solid vintage teak. Every single one different, because every single one had a life before this one. I find that very, very hard to resist!

Jump online to shop, link in bio, or better still pop into the shop and choose your favourite in person. 🤎

Did you know that writing a review for a small business like ours is one of the nicest things a customer can do for us? Reviews (obviously lovely ones!) are worth their weight in gold.

Reviews are great for two reasons. They give potential customers a positive impression and really help secure sales or a visit to our shop. And on the other side, reviews give us a shot in the arm, and an indication that we’re doing the right thing.

Running a small business can be a slog. Sometimes we wonder whether we’re doing the right thing, whether people are happy with our service, whether they’re loving their purchases etc etc. I’m always second guessing myself. We usually find out what people think in passing. A comment at the till. A wave from the door on the way out. So when someone goes home and takes the time to sit down and publish a review online, whether about the shop in general or a particular product, saying something publicly in writing for all to see, it’s just so very, very welcome. It gives all of us such a buzz! A warm fuzzy. Sometimes I even read it out loud to whoever is standing nearby!

Here are a few recent ones from Google and our Shopify app, JudgeMe. Swipe through and share our joy. 🤍

So, to everyone who has written a review, thank you. Truly. Every single one is so appreciated. And as you know, I always reply, thanking you myself. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Reviews matter more to a shop like ours than I can say. And if you’ve been in lately or shopped online and left with something you love, your positive review is a small thing that makes an enormous difference to us. 🤍
