Our annual chauffeur driven trip to Sydney today was amazing! Thank you to our wool rep Andrew! We almost topped the sale for AWN! One of our lines of weaner wool (our babies, 10-11 months old) made only 20 cents less than the top and another line off the grown sheep was equal 3rd with 40 cents less than the top! The most exciting thing was, while we kept our two top lines for future Waverley products (photos of it in the box!) our next 2 top lines went to the Italian buyer Vitale Barberis Canonico!! These lines while they would suit for our products are a bit shorter, therefore is better to go to Italy and keep the longer stapled wool for the Australian machinery and will make better, consistent yarn. This is what I mean by the best of the best goes into our products! Selling our wool to Italian buyers is an achievement that we have aimed for and have achieved over recent years! A credit to the studs where we purchase our rams from to enable us to breed sheep with quality wool! Today was bittersweet as it’s the last time we will see our wool sold in Sydney. Next year the selling centre will be back in Goulburn!!

Foggy start to the morning then the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day! A fantastic day to learn to weave with Sue! There was a lot of intense concentration and fun chitter chatter and before we knew it the day was drawing to an end! This lovely group of ladies will join me again next weekend to finish off their scarves😁

We had surprise visitors today with a big surprise for us! Michaels cousin Nathan and his very talented wife Beck who created this gorgeous wall hanging as a surprise gift for us. Not only did she crochet it with our ‘Ethel’ 1st x comeback but she made the pattern for it!! We’re so impressed by her talent!! Beck will be teaching a learn to crochet workshop in October. Details to come. Meanwhile check out the freshly dyed yarn ready for our Weaving with Sue workshop tomorrow. A surprise new colour is launching for this occasion!!😁

Wow! That is definitely a shearing that we won’t forget in a hurry! The first day we had not one but two unexpected power outages. Then we settled in and we had a third on the Wednesday! We got the first week done. There’s a snapshot of Bobby in the shed and being shorn! We were hopeful to keep the sheep dry over the rainy weekend but when we let them out for a feed a downpour changed it. We managed to finish the Merinos though. Instead of finishing all of the shearing early the following week to get the shearing shed ready for Henry’s 18th birthday party we had to get all the wool out, tidy up, cook and decorate, party on then get the shed ready to shear the crossbreds the following week. We did it though and it will be memorable as we had our 3 older boys working in the shed together and uncle John came over to make sure he hadn’t lost his touch with the handpiece or fleece throwing!! A huge thank you to everyone who assisted with our main annual shearing as well as my helpers for the party. Without you all the last few weeks would’ve been possible!

PLEASE NOTE: our opening hours will be adjusted over the next couple of weeks due to our annual shearing and a significant birthday party for a family member to be held on our farm. Adjusted hours are in this reel. Thanks for your understanding! 😊

Willow Vale Wool visited Bendigo Woollen Mills this morning before heading home! I was keen to purchase some 100% pure Corriedale yarn originating from Tony Manchester’s Roseville Corriedale Stud! I also decided to give some bamboo knitting needles a go and made a start on the way home!! It was so nice to see green paddocks the whole way, a lot of pretty scenery! Also a huge thank you to Aunty Helen for looking after our shop while we were away💕😊

What a weekend!! It felt like a huge reunion!! Catching up with customers, fellow stallholders, people we’ve met through sport shear, our shearer, our neighbour as well as everyone in the sheep shed with their stud sheep. I even spotted a familiar face in the crowd all the way from Dunedoo that I haven’t seen for a long time and had a quick chat! We feel privileged to have met these amazing people over the years, in all aspects of the sheep and wool industry and call many our friends, and the special part is, we continue to meet a lot of wonderful people in all areas as well. A huge thank you to everyone who came to our stall and to those who purchased some of our Willow Vale Wool! You will forever have a special piece of Willow Vale and our passion and dedication with you. We’re going home on a high! 😁
