I was nervous but I’m so glad I did it! Definitely money well spent to experience China and the wool processing in China!! Two mills that we visited is where some of our wool from our 2026 clip will end up in 4 months time! Some lucky growers actually found wool from their farms! I found some from people I know here at Yass as well! The people from the mills were all so welcoming and loved that us Aussie farmers came to learn and see what happens to our wool! Our little old clip from Yass ends up literally all over the world! Some processed here in Australia for our little wool business, some to Italy to go into top of the line apparel then some to China who then sell garments not only there but all over the world! Absolutely mind blowing and an experience I’ll never ever forget! I went home with life long friends from all over Australia that are now my China woolgrowers tour family! Absolutely amazing and I can’t thank Kylie who organised it but didn’t come, CEO Rick and the AWN staff enough who came with us and guided us, while learning some new things themselves also gave us more of an insight to give us a better understanding, explaining things along the way. What really made our trip was Addison our Chinese tour guide. He went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed and got a true authentic experience of China. He even stayed up til 2 in the morning to put together 2 clips of our mill tours! I went to China with a perception and now I think differently! While I’m exhausted I’m also on a high!!

Our annual chauffeur driven trip to Sydney today was amazing! Thank you to our wool rep Andrew! We almost topped the sale for AWN! One of our lines of weaner wool (our babies, 10-11 months old) made only 20 cents less than the top and another line off the grown sheep was equal 3rd with 40 cents less than the top! The most exciting thing was, while we kept our two top lines for future Waverley products (photos of it in the box!) our next 2 top lines went to the Italian buyer Vitale Barberis Canonico!! These lines while they would suit for our products are a bit shorter, therefore is better to go to Italy and keep the longer stapled wool for the Australian machinery and will make better, consistent yarn. This is what I mean by the best of the best goes into our products! Selling our wool to Italian buyers is an achievement that we have aimed for and have achieved over recent years! A credit to the studs where we purchase our rams from to enable us to breed sheep with quality wool! Today was bittersweet as it’s the last time we will see our wool sold in Sydney. Next year the selling centre will be back in Goulburn!!
