On September 4th, we joined esteemed leaders for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lions Eye Hospital in Khulshi, Chattogram. এসি দিয়ে নয়, সায়েন্স দিয়ে ঘর ঠান্ডা রাখুন:

ঢাকার গরমে বাঁচার 'গাণিতিক' সমাধান

ঢাকার বর্তমান তাপমাত্রা আর আর্দ্রতা মিলে আমাদের লিভিং রুমগুলোকে একেকটা ওভেনে পরিণত করেছে। আমরা অনেকেই ভাবি দামী ফার্নিচার বা বড় এসিই বুঝি একমাত্র সমাধান। কিন্তু সায়েন্স বলছে অন্য কথা। একজন আর্কিটেক্ট হিসেবে আমি যখন কোনো স্পেস ডিজাইন করি, তখন আমার মাথায় নান্দনিকতার চেয়ে 'থার্মাল কম্ফোর্ট' বা তাপীয় প্রশান্তি আগে কাজ করে।
ডিজাইন মানে কেবল ঘর সাজানো নয়, এটি আসলে একটি 'সার্ভাইভাল সায়েন্স'।

চলুন দেখি, কেন আপনার ঘরের ইন্টেরিয়র ডিজাইনে একটু 'গণিত' যোগ করা জরুরি:

১. তাপের অংক: আপনি কি অজান্তেই ঘর গরম করছেন?
আমাদের দেয়াল বা জানলা দিয়ে কতটা তাপ ভেতরে আসবে তা নির্ভর করে একটি বিশেষ মানের ওপর, যাকে বলা হয় U-value (Thermal Transmittance)।
সূত্রটি সহজ:
Q = U X A X Delta T
এখানে Q হলো আপনার ঘরে ঢোকা তাপের পরিমাণ। আপনার জানলার কাঁচ যদি সাধারণ হয়, তবে তার U-value অনেক বেশি। ফলে বাইরের ৪২° সেলসিয়াস তাপ অনায়াসে ভেতরে ঢুকে পড়ে।
সমাধান: ইন্টেরিয়রে 'Low-E' গ্লাস বা ডাবল গ্লেজিং ব্যবহার করলে এই Q-এর মান নাটকীয়ভাবে কমে আসে। আপনার এসি তখন অনেক কম কষ্টে ঘর ঠান্ডা করতে পারে। (নোট নিন: জানলায় ভারী পর্দার বদলে 'হিট রিফ্লেক্টিভ' ব্লাইন্ড ব্যবহার করা এখন বিলাসিতা নয়, প্রয়োজনীয়তা)।

২. আলোর 'লাক্স' এবং হিট জেনারেশন
আমরা অনেক সময় ঘরে এত বেশি লাইট জ্বালাই যে মনে হয় স্টেডিয়ামে আছি! মনে রাখবেন, প্রতিটি লাইট সোর্স মানেই বাড়তি হিট।

গাণিতিক হিসাব: আপনার পড়ার টেবিলের জন্য দরকার ৩০০-৫০০ Lux (আলোর একক)। কিন্তু পুরো রুমকে এমন উজ্জ্বল করার দরকার নেই।

অর্থাৎ, প্রয়োজনের অতিরিক্ত লুমেন (Phi) মানেই ঘরের তাপমাত্রা কয়েক ডিগ্রি বাড়িয়ে দেওয়া। তাই 'টাস্ক লাইটিং' (নির্দিষ্ট জায়গায় ফোকাসড আলো) ব্যবহার করুন, পুরো ঘরকে ওভেন বানাবেন না।

৩. ক্রস ভেন্টিলেশন: ঢাকার বাতাসের সাথে সন্ধি
ঢাকার আর্দ্রতা আমাদের বড় শত্রু। ঘাম যখন বাতাসে মিশতে পারে না, তখনই অস্বস্তি বাড়ে। আসবাবপত্রের বিন্যাস এমনভাবে করা উচিত যেন জানলা থেকে বাতাস সরাসরি আপনার বসার বা শোয়ার জায়গার ওপর দিয়ে যেতে পারে। যদি আপনার সোফা বা আলমারি বাতাস চলাচলের পথ আটকে দেয়, তবে এসি চালিয়েও আপনি 'দমবন্ধ' অনুভব করবেন। মনে রাখবেন, বালতিতে ফুটো রেখে পানি ভরা আর ভেন্টিলেশনহীন ঘরে এসি চালানো একই কথা!

৪. থার্মাল মাস: আপনার ফ্লোর কি তাপ ধরে রাখছে?
কংক্রিট বা ডার্ক কালারের কার্পেট দিনের বেলা তাপ শোষণ করে রাখে এবং রাতে তা বিকিরণ করে।

প্রো-টিপ: হালকা রঙের ম্যাটেরিয়াল এবং সিরামিক বা মার্বেল ফিনিশ ব্যবহার করুন। এদের 'স্পেসিফিক হিট ক্যাপাসিটি' এমন যে এরা ঘরকে প্রাকৃতিকভাবে শীতল রাখতে সাহায্য করে।

সারকথা (The Takeaway):

ডিজাইন মানে শুধু দামী পর্দা বা সোফা নয়; ডিজাইন মানে হলো বাইরের ৪২° তাপমাত্রাকে বিজ্ঞানের সাহায্যে ২৮° তে নামিয়ে আনা। প্রফেশনাল আর্কিটেকচারাল সলিউশন ছাড়া ঘর সাজানো মানে হলো কেবল প্রসাধনী লাগানো, যা আপনাকে সাময়িক শান্তি দিলেও দীর্ঘমেয়াদী প্রশান্তি দেবে না।
