As we close out the Long Beach Boardwalk Fair weekend, I have to give a shout-out to my inspiration, my partner, and my biggest cheerleader. I lost my biggest supporter on May 23, 2023… and life will never be the same.
Grove Street hasn’t been what it used to be in over a year now. There was a reason for that- but when it was “big” my god, it was on fire. It’s all thanks to this guy right here. Growing up, I got to witness the greatest grind, determination and true dedication of one of the greatest entrepreneurs to ever witness. In turn, he handed all those attributes down to me.
My sign painter, my delivery man, my book keeper, my fair “setter-upper” and everyone’s favorite salesman on those boards. He was so proud of this business and always pushed me to go bigger, better and stronger. Any father could have gone to bed at a decent hour, told his daughter to stop killing herself to make a few bucks… not this guy here. He continued to push me, help me through the night, let me take over his house when I lived there with all my craft stuff and let me keep grinding. It eventually afforded me bigger & better machines, putting myself through college and a house. It wasn’t about the money- it was about the lesson. It was about the grind. Up until last month, he was pushing me to do Father’s Day keychains “at least do the keychains that’s where the quick moneys at- it’s easy and I’ll help you!” The lesson, which he’s taught me my whole life was to never rely on anyone but myself, to believe in myself that I had what it took… and the grind NEVER stops. He always told me he wasn’t worried about me bc “you’re a hard worker, you stop at nothing, and you have what it takes, you’re just like me.”
He always believed that I could have this business to start & pick up again when I needed to. He thought it was the greatest thing. He loved going to to deliver the sign, selling his heart out at the Boardwalk Fairs,& getting rewarded with a pretzel and a yoo-hoo for all his hard work at the end of a fair day.
