Thoughts in MeMadeMay 🤔
We're halfway(ish) through MMM and this year has been an interesting one!

In terms of community, I miss the old times that made it possible to get to know new makers, find inspiration though the hashtag etc. nowadays it seems like the algorithm makes that impossible. 😓

On a personal note, I have been enjoying this year to see which pieces I actually wear and where I have gaps in my wardrobe. 👗

While sewing new items, I have been paying special attention to finishes (for prettiness and durability) and focussing on sewing basics to fill those wardrobe gaps.

Thoughts on the tee 👕
- Pattern: by in size 10.
- Fabric: beautiful white cotton knit, deadstock from Essentiel, bought at .
- Timing and budget: 14,4 euro for 1m20 fabric and the tee took about 2hours to sew.

Thoughts on the pants 👖
Pants are the from . Swipe for a sat down picture. More info on the grid.
Today's : something with a mistake! Most of my makes have some kind of mistake, but these pants have a big oopsie... Can you spot it? I sewed the zipper on the wrong side of the pants. 😅 But I think it worked out in the end and it isn't that visible.

- the pattern:
I used the pattern as a base in a size S (size ranges from XS to ###L), but made quite a few modifications.

- the modifications: ✂️
*Removing sleeves (shocking, I know! 😱)
*Adding contrasting welt pockets
*Cropping the hem with 11cm
*Taking in the shoulders with 10cm
*Rounding out the armholes

- the finishes :
all edges are finished with bias binding, which is a finish I love on these types of garments. Doesn't it tie everything up nicely? 👌

- the fabrics:
Side A: with double gauze from .dotter.naaicursussen 🌼
Side B: navy blue cotton twill from .opnieuwenco, quilted together with an old bed spread. I quilted some irregular waves, kind of free handed it and hoped for the best 😂 and I found the quilting process really quite enjoyable. 🌊

- the budget:
€44,72 in total: €11,50 (pdf pattern) + €24,22 (syas fabric) + €6 (navy fabric) + €0 (upcycled bedspread) + €3 (bias binding)

Throwback to my old sewing space. 🛋️

As my new sewing space is getting exciting upgrades (stay tuuuned 😎), I'm looking back at my old space in the apartment.
Wasn't it super cosy?!

I was so grateful to have this little corner in our living room as my working from home/sewing desk during lockdown.

The good:
- natural light!
- lots of cutting space on the floor of the living room
- library in the back 📚

The questionable:
As it was in our living room there was usually
- all the thread everywhere
- hard to keep mess-free
- took away space in the living room

All in all, I really enjoyed sewing in my little corner. I'm super grateful I could have such a nice spot to start out this sewing adventure.

Vacation vibes
This had a great time in the south of France!

About the Mellow dress:
I was lucky enough to be part of the testing squad for this pattern and let me tell you, Georgia poured her heart and soul into this pattern.

Don't let the simplicity fool you! The back pattern piece went through a few iterations before finding its final form, but the extra work was well worth the effort!

💙 What I love:
- the sporty and chill vibes of the top and the feminine touch of the bias cut, form a great balance for an everyday dress.
- the bias binding offers a lot of options for colour contrasts (can you spot the subtle red details? 🍒)
- it sews up soooo quickly! Cutting out the fabric on the bias took me a good while, but once I got sewing it was ready in no time. ✂️ (But don't forget to let the finished dress hang out overnight so the fabric can relax before hemming!)

❤️ What I hacked:
- to create a herringbone pattern, I split the front pattern piece in two.
- I went for shoulder ties instead of buttons. 🪢
- I added a built-in bra so I could confortably go bra-free in this dress. (Thanks for the tutorial!)

For reference: I made a size 10, and lengthened the dress by 8cm.

I used a cotton bedsheet which I found at a flea market and bias binding from my stash.

Our friends got married! 🥰
So naturally, I had to make a watching dress and bowtie.

💙 FABRIC
It was love at first sight.
This flowy modal-poly fabric from has such a beautiful texture to it, I just had to have it.

Some thoughts on the fabric:
- The 20% polyester in it made it a bit less comfortable to wear on a 30°c day. 🥵 Normally I stay away from polyester in woven fabrics, but I made an exception this time.
- The skirt turned out slightly transparent, so I had to make a last minute underskirt.
- I pre-steamed it instead of prewashing, out of fear to take away the beautiful texture and sheen. (I have washed it since and it came out beautifully, so it could have been prewashed).

💙 PATTERN
After weeks of research for the perfect pattern, I finally found The One! This is the Lucille dress from
It's so swishhhhyyyyy! 🌬️

Some thoughts on the pattern:
- I graded from a 38 at the waist and 40 at the hips. But I could have made a 38 straight.
- the skirt pattern is wonderful in my opinion. Very flowy and elegant, yet still comfortable. 👗
- you can't see it here, but I opened the back of the dress, inspired by the dress made by
I'm happy I did that, because it adds a bit more interest to the back (and gave some extra ventilation on a hot day 😂)

Mama Taupe 💕

This dress was a wonderful mother-daughter collaboration. We had such a great time coming up with a design together. And after lots of sketches and ideas, we settled on a bit of asymmetry in front and symmetry in the back.

It definitely makes a statement and I love how these colours make her shine!

𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙞𝙩!

Get ready to hear me talk about these dungarees *a lot*.
Because, friends, i am so gosh darn proud of this one. 🤓
Sometimes, you're not sure if a project will turn out "really me", you know what I mean?
But it's safe to say that these dungarees feel 𝟭𝟬𝟬%𝗺𝗲! 💫

For the nerdy sewy friends, here are some juicy details:

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻:
These from are the perfect, classic dungarees.
It's my first time sewing a MM pattern and I am a fan! The details, the construction, the topstitching... They know what they're doing!

𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴:
The pattern runs from a UK6-28
* The gram warned me that they do run BIG. So i made a toile (i know! Who am I?!) in a size 10. Even though the size chart put me in a size 12.
* For the final version i graded from an 8 at the top and waist, to a 10 at the hips, and an 8 in the legs again.
I did end up letting out the seam allowance by 0,5cm at the thighs for a bit more wiggle room.
* The length was perfect for me, so no changes there.
* I used flat felled seams on most seams.

𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘀 :
* I changed the bib, based on a blogpost by Martha over at : added a zip pocket to avoid phones, pens and other knickknacks to fall out when doing acrobatic adventures. 🤠
* I lined the bib and took out 3cm from the height to have it hit at my waist.

𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰:
I had to hunt for the perfect fabric. First the gabardines caught my eye, but I thought it'd be too heavy dute (365g/m2). So I opted for the cotton twill in colour dune (270g/m2) so they will also be suitable for spring and summer days. ☀️
A linen or corduroy would also be very nice options, I think!

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
* the hardware is from in old copper. I'm glad with the quality and colour match. (Bought .stoffen.naailessen)

Fancy pants in the sun ⛅

I loved the making process of these trousers!

Deciding which pattern to make, might have been the toughest part. 🤔 First I thought about the as the whole sewing world seems to loooove them. But I wanted to try a newer pattern with a more statement look... Also I wanted side seams. 😅

So I went for the pattern from (sizes 00-30, max hip 155cm) 👖

I made a size 8 (sizing down based on other reviews) with quite a few modifications:

✂️ 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙨:

- took out 1,5cm from the rise
- added 1,5cm to the width of each back dart
- used a 2cm seam allowance on the back seam
- scooped out the back crotch & straightened out the front crotch.

Psssst... These mods effectively turned it into a size 6 at the waist and 8 at the hip. 😉

💭 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣:

Sanna writes super clear instructions and the pattern has a surprising pant construction... Overall it's a great and versatile pattern. A wonderful first meeting with Paradise patterns. 👌

𝗜𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁:

- 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯: by

- 𝘚𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨: I made size 3 (sizing goes up to 127cm bust)

- 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨: roughly 16hours I think? Excl. blocking. ;)

𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹:

"Mille ii" by in colours 017, 012 and 143. Bought from .cc (50 % Virgin wool Merino 50 % Acrylic)

In total, I used 7,5 balls of white 🤍, 5,5 balls of blue 💙 and 0,5 ball of caramel 🧡. Each 50g/ball.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻:

- 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘷𝘦: to reduce the volume a little, I picked up less stitches at the start of the sleeves. I'm glad I did because this volume is already quite as the edge of my comfort zone ☺️

- 𝘊𝘶𝘧𝘧: I finished the cuffs with a ltalian Bind off.

- 𝘓𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩: I added 8 rows of length to my bodice to have it slightly less cropped.

- 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘴: I created thick stripes of 8 rows each. 🦓

𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁:

60,75 euro for the wool
18 euro for the needles
12,5 CA$ for the pattern

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

For a first time sweater project, I am extremely happy and proud. Are there a good few mistakes here and there? Yep! But that's the beautiful of hand knitted jumpers.

It will keep me cosy and warm in the coming months. And I couldn't be more proud. ☺️

Lounging is a serious business, people! 🤣

It took a while, but I finally jumped on the 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁 train! 🚂

Kind of by accident, as I didn't expect to have so much leftover fabric.
But it turned out enough to make some matching shorts! Hurrah!
