UAU’ – World of Wonders
De naam van de nieuwe associatie is ‘UAU’collectiv, uitgesproken als ‘WOW’. Het heeft een Romaanse oorsprong, en is een uitroep van verbazing. UAU is een palindroom die kracht uitstraalt; het wijst op de power & passie die verschillende disciplines samenbrengen in 1 collectief. Schaalvergoting en ontplooiing
“Voor ons moet het nieuwe collectief een creatief platform en denk

tank worden. We willen flexibele gebouwen maken voor zowel overheid, bedrijven als privé. Een gebouw moet krachtig zijn en power uitstralen. Het collectief stelt ons in staat om te werken in een strakke organisatie, waar eenieder erkenning, vrijheid en respect krijgt, en zich volledig kan ontplooien. De inzet is complementariteit: elke architect zal dezelfde aanpak hebben en eenzelfde contact met zijn klant als voorheen. Er zal dus voor hun weinig veranderen. Maar door de schaalvergroting kunnen we met meer bedrijfsdiscipline werken, elkaar aanvullen en versterken waardoor het eindresultaat, van eender welk project, groot of klein, alleen maar beter wordt.”

Every project starts with a question: how can everything that is needed find its place? We explore the urban fabric, its surroundings and the programme, looking for the right balance between them. As the idea grows, spaces start to find their place, connect with one another and create a sense of flow, slowly turning a collection of requirements into a plan and a place of its own. We then bring our vision to life through model renders, making the design tangible and showing how the building works, relates to its surroundings and becomes part of its context.

Although our proposal for the PLOT competition was not selected, we remain proud of our design. Inspired by Genk’s rich mining history, our concept takes coal as its starting point, translating its fragmented and irregular character into slanted lines, varied windows and a dynamic architectural expression. PLOT was envisioned as a contemporary education and training environment for the police school, with a clear connection to Genk’s industrial past.

More than just a building, the project aims to create a strong connection between architecture, landscape and people. A covered forecourt facing the existing pond forms a welcoming entrance and a place for interaction, while the stairs and integrated ramps extend the landscape into the building. By raising the ground floor and reusing excavated soil as green slopes, the building is naturally embedded in its surroundings while creating a stronger relationship with the wider campus.

Located along Hasselt’s green boulevard, out project Thonissenlaan seamlessly integrates into the existing urban fabric while introducing a generous green space within the city. The mixed-use development comprises 16 apartments above a commercial ground floor, with a strong focus on architectural quality and a carefully considered building layout. Designed to maximize natural daylight, each apartment features at least one private terrace overlooking either the vibrant city centre or the shared outdoor garden. Particular attention was given to the architectural detailing, where refined masonry craftsmanship and subtle brickwork details lend the building a distinctive character and an elegant architectural expression.
