Galenuit Hand Spun

Galenuit Hand Spun Custom hand spun fibres including dog hair, alpaca, llama and wool I bought a second hand spinning wheel, and got started.

About 20 years ago, I saw all the hair I was brushing from my 6 Alaskan malamutes and thought that perhaps I could do something with it. It was not easy at first, but over the years, I have learned techniques to make a better yarn. A couple of years ago, I spun sheep's wool for the first time. It certainly was easier in that the wool wants to cling to itself while the dog hair is slippery. Even though the wool is easier, I still go back to the dog hair.

Something new for me... Spinning cat hair. This hair was saved over time. The hair was very fine and matted easily. My first attempts were not great... The hair needed to be carded and even handling caused it to mat. And then, during spinning, I would get about a foot of yarn, them it would break.
Looking for solutions, I could mix it with wool, or find a mother way to give it strength. I decided to try to core spin it around a thread.... It worked great. Then plied and washed...I think it turned out great. This was the most challenging but I am happy I got a great result.
