Just finished a new batch of diamond willow 'hiking/walking' sticks. Each one has been brushed with danish oil and two coats of marine varnish. Have also added a rubber tip to protect the exposed end and my wife Sarah has added a very artful leather and bead decoration . Very handy when you are out hiking the local trails and streets. Would make a very nice Valentine's Day gift! These are available on a first come- first served basis. Take your pick from amongst the dozen in this batch. Each stick is priced at $60. Just completed this 'Blanket Chest'. It is made primarily with tongue and groove pine and finished inside with some aromatic cedar. It was made for a friend who wanted something in which to safely keep some family items and mementoes. He and I collaborated on the actual construction, following his direction and design. It is safe to say that we were both pleased with the final result. Decided not to stain this piece and instead keep the natural wood look with a couple coats of a clear finish that will seal the wood and protect from scratches. It is a little on the large side.
I think I might build another one in the near future but scale down the dimensions by a few inches. Overall, a nice design and a very functional piece of furniture that would look goood in any home.

Give me a call at 420-4015 if you would like to discuss a possible woodwork project. Looking forward to the end of our cold weather for sure!

A kitchen island finished in time for Christmas. This one has a 30 inch wide top, 48 inch length and countertop height. Finished with 'early american' stain and two coats of varathane to protect the wood. Two good size storage shelves. This one also has locking casters so it can be easily moved around a kitchen/ dining area. I have made a few with this open design which seems to be well liked.
I expect this will be my last post for the year. Thanks to all for your support and your interest in my woodworking projects. Much appreciated.
Merry Christmas and the very best for the coming year. Take care.

I have just finished a new selection of 'diamond willow walking sticks'. They will be on display and for sale this Saturday at the Morningstar Faire, along with some other small wodworking items. As always, tried to pick those that have some 'character'. All have been finished with danish oil and two coats of varnish and a rubber tip to protect the bottom end from weather damage. My wife Sarah has also very artfully added a decorative touch that very nicely completes each one. If you can't make it to the sale, but would like to purchase one, please give me a call at 420-4015. They are all priced at a reasonable $60 on a first come/first served basis. Thank you.

Just finished another of these kitchen garbage canisters. Mounted on casters so it can be moved around easily to wherever you need it. The full top is removeable when it is time to take out the full size garbage bag that it will accommodate. First saw one of these at my brother's place in Thunder Bay quite a few years ago. Took a few pictures and measurements and have been making them ever since. People seem to like them and it certainly saves using all those small bags stashed under the kitchen sink!! Would make a nice Xmas present too.

Another project finished and gone to it's new home. A slightly different take on an entryway bench. Could also be used in a bedroom or other places in the house. I quite like the two tone staining that gives it a different look. Hopefully I will post here a little more often as projects are finished. I am also working on a new batch of diamond willow walking sticks. If you would like one for yourself or to give one as a present, please give me a call at 420-4015. I will post some pictures of some of the willow in the near future. Cheers!

I knew that I hadn't posted here for a while, but did not realize that it was last March already since my last one. It must be true that time does speed up somehow as you get older. I can say that without telling you exactly how old I really am!! I did not do much woodwork over the summer (sort of on purpose!) but then the wildfires and all the smoke and the evacuation did not permit much activity anyway. But I have been doing some small projects as summer has ended and we are well on our way to another winter season. Attached are a few pictures of recent items. An entryway bench with angled legs for a good friend, a coffee bar table that the customer supplied the top for and a four-legged 'bed' for a customer's two small four-legged furry friends! It was interesting and fun to work on these, especially when I often get involved in making larger items. For these projects, I was supplied with a picture of the item with approx dimensions and figure out the design and construction method from there. It is one part of the process that I really enjoy as well as the building itself. Never gets tiring or boring and for an active retired guy, keeps me using a little brainpower which can't be a bad thing.
Christmas season is fast approaching and I am working on another batch of 'diamond willow walking sticks' which will be ready for the MorningStar Faire coming up in November. In the meantime if you are thinking about a woodworking item for a Christmas present, please feel free to give me a call at 420-4015. And I will post here a little more often as projects get finished and delivered to their new owners. Thanks to all again for your interest in my 'humble hobby'. Take care.

And here I am just a day later with another post. Not bad when you remember that it was months since my last one. Some pictures of several of the projects completed this past fall and winter. The portable garbage canisters are always popular as are the deacon's benches, which are both sturdy pieces but also very functional in your home on a day to day basis. The bed frame is a queen size with tongue and groove pine in both the headboard and footboard. The pantry is very handy for additional storage. The bunk beds are a twin over a queen which presented some challenges initially but worked our very well as a finished product. Lots of variety which is always a good thing. Keeps up my interest and exercises the brain when working out the final design, exact measurements and shaping of the individual pieces. Woodworking it seems is a never ending learning process. Hope you enjoy peeking at the pics. Call or text 420-4015 if you have any questions, comments or a project in mind. There is astill a lot of snow out there, but spring is coming!!

It has been almost a year now since I have posted here on my page. I just didn't realize that it had been so long but I have been working on some projects in the meantime. Among them has been a variety of kitchen islands in a few different configurations and colour combinations. Some with doors, others with open shelves and also a portable one on wheels with a couple of drawers. It has been interesting playing around with the various designs and dimensions. I continue to use materials that will not run up the cost too much, which can be a challenge sometimes. I have also completed a number of other very different items which I may put up here on a different post. As always woodworking is a very enjoyable and fascinating hobby. And gratifying when the end result looks well and works well. If you have a project in mind, please feel free to give me a call. 420-4015. Thanks again for your ongoing interest in my woodwork.

It has been a busy couple of weeks in the workshop with these two projects recently out the door. The sofa table has a liitle differrent colour scheme than previous ones I have made but turned out to be quite pleasing to the eye! It is a little early for a picnic table, but this one was being transported to a remote cabin, so needed to be finished while the snowmobiling was still decent. Heard that it made it to it's new home in one piece and intact. I love the variety of projects that have come my way recently and makes for interesting challenges. Take care. Looking forward to the spring!!

Just finished this 'kitchen island' and it has already gone to it's new home in Wollaston. The new owner is quite pleased with the extra storage space it will provide in their home as well as a place for food prep etc. The island is counter top height at 36 inches and 55 inches long by 32 wide. The frame and shelves are painted with a good qualiity paint and the top stained with 'early american' and top coated with several coats of varathane. It is a heavy piece as it is constructed primarily with 3/4 inch biirch veneer plywood. My brother -in-law and I have worked on two of these in the past few months and tweaking the design a little as we build each successive one. So far we like the end result!
It has been a productive couple of months in the workshop and looking out the window this morning appears that winter will be sticking around for a while yet!

Cheers,

Patrick
