Introducing: Garden Reverie 🌸 🫧

So excited to welcome Ellana into our design family and help her transform her bedroom into a quiet, whimsical retreat.

This bedroom concept is inspired by blooming rose gardens and sun drenched afternoons. Leaning into a romantic, maximalist spirit, we are focusing on layering patterns and rich textures.

This is a poetic space where she can retreat, reset, and curl up with her pup, Joe 🐶

One of our most dramatic transformations to date...

This once dated bathroom got a major facelift this year. By opening up a wall to create space for a standing shower, we were able to rework the layout so the toilet is no longer in direct view upon entry, and incorporate a much more practical double vanity.

If you’ve ever found yourself looking at a room in your home and not knowing where to start, whether it’s layout, storage, or overall aesthetic, this is exactly where working with a designer can make a difference.

At Poppy and Peridot Creative Interiors we are focused on creating spaces that are not only visually stunning, but that also make day to day life a little easier!

If you’re styling a historic home, not everything on your walls needs to be traditional artwork.

In fact, some of the most effective ways to add character are by framing pieces that already carry personal history or meaning!

Here are 5 options to consider:

1. Sheet music - Look for orgjnal or time worn copies rather than bright white reproductions. It’s especially important to also select pieces that you particularly love or have a personal connection to!

2. Family recipes - These work especially well in kitchens or pantries. Imperfections in the paper like stains and creases add to the overall effect!

3. Cards and Postcards - These can be brand new or not, but they can be fun to collect when travelling or saved when given to you on special occasions. They look particularly effective when mounted in groups.

4. Old photos of the home - If you can source archival images, these add a direct connection to the homes past. It’s fun to compare these to each room in your home at present and imagine what life was like at the time they were taken!

5. Mounted specimens - Butterflies, moths, and botanicals can feel appropriate and elegant in historic interiors while bringing a bit of the outside in. Look for authentic pieces rather than mass-produced commercial versions.

These types of items carry a sense of continuity into the home by bridging what was there before with how the home is being lived in now, without feeling overly styled.

Let me know in the comments any interesting personal items you’ve displayed in your home’s, or if you’d like a Part 2!

This is the girl who traded pointe shoes, hair pins, and 8 hr studio days for floorplans and fabric samples.

When I retired from dancing I knew I would never feel fulfilled if I didn’t find a second career where I could continue to direct all my creative energy. I am fortunate that I quickly rediscovered my love for design, which seemed like a place where I could translate all my 20+ years of dedication to my artistry.

Designing a home is not only a technical skill, but should also he approached as a fine art. It’s about colour, composition and emotion just as much as it about plans and construction. It’s about how our eyes and bodies move through a space, and how it makes us feel.

When you hire a designer you’re choosing someone to shape the environment you live in every day. I’ve always believed it’s worth choosing someone who approaches that work like an artist, which is what I strive for in all my projects.

House hunting in Prince Edward County has become a bit of a personal project lately. With my parents retiring soon, I’ve been searching for another historic home to add to our family, and it’s been such a reminder of why I care so deeply about the work I do.

But if I’m being honest, it’s also been discouraging.

Hunting through MLS, I’ve seen so many beautiful homes with layers of history unfortunately having had so much of their character stripped away and “updated” into something that is completely disconnected from the architecture.

I can’t help but wish I could just snap them up before they get turned into McMansions and preserve them. In many cases some of these modern finishes were selected to signal that they were expensive, but expensive doesn’t automatically mean appropriate.

Historic homes are a finite resource. Once the original character and layout has been stripped away, it is incredibly difficult and expensive to bring back. If we don’t start educating ourselves on how to renovate these homes correctly, there won’t be any left that still tell the story they were built to tell

This only reinforces why I believe these homes deserve even more care, more understanding and more intention when we step in to change them.

If you find yourself fortunate enough to be the steward of one of these homes, this is the kind of work I am passionate and excited to help guide.

Thanks for listening to my rant! 😘

My best advice for homeowners who are deciding to work with a designer: select someone whose ethos you truly align with, and do your best to let go and trust the process even when it feels uncomfortable. It will all work out in the end.
