The tradition of birth month flowers preexists in ancient Roman times when people celebrated birthdays by offering natural blooms to mark the occasion, as well as gifts to bring luck and protection. Over the time, this concept became a way to express personal feelings besides marking milestones.

As a September birth flower, morning glories often represent love, fresh starts, and affection. Their tendency to climb and reach skyward also connects them to ambition and personal growth as they are flowering daily to meet the light and closing by afternoon.

I handcrafted this flower piece to honour that long tradition 💐
I used Italian crepe paper for the flowers and Japanese calligraphy rice paper for the leaves. Every petal is shaped, painted, and assembled by hand. The bloom is glued down onto a cotton hand stitched board.

As a hand-made piece, no two flowers are exactly alike and that how it works in natural world 😊
