In a Calgary home, the first thing Robert C. called out was the pricing.

July 2026, and his Google review kept it simple: honest, fair, and exactly what he wanted when every window and door needed replacing.

That kind of feedback matters.

Not because it sounds polished, but because it reflects what homeowners are really looking for when they start a project like this. Clear communication. Straight answers. No surprises.

Sunbusters was proud to help with the full window and door replacement, and even prouder to hear Robert describe the experience in his own words.

If you’re planning a window or door project in Calgary or anywhere in Alberta, we’d be glad to talk it through with you.

Before the cold really settles in, a quick draft check can save you a lot of discomfort in Alberta.

On a still evening, run a lit candle or incense stick slowly along the window frame, sash, and sill. If the smoke bends or flickers, air is moving through that spot.

Try this in 2 minutes:
- Close all windows and doors
- Turn off fans and vents if you can
- Move the candle or incense slowly around each frame
- Watch for any smoke pull or wobble
- Make a note of windows that fail the test

If two or more windows show drafts, it’s worth getting them checked before winter gets serious. Small air leaks can turn into cold rooms, higher bills, and extra condensation later on.

A quick test tonight can tell you a lot before the deep cold comes.

Two days in Okotoks, and the whole home was transformed.

This project was completed start to finish in just two days, with every window and door replaced across the house. One shaped window was squared off and fitted with a blind for the home office, giving the room a cleaner, more functional finish.

The result is a home that feels more complete, more comfortable, and ready for everyday living. When one project covers every window and door, the difference shows inside and out.

If you are planning a renovation in Okotoks or the Calgary area, book a consultation and let’s take a look at what is possible.

Myth: if you start, you have to do the whole house.

Reality: you absolutely do not. This is one of the biggest reasons older-home owners in Calgary delay window and door projects for years, because they mentally price the entire house at once and decide it is “too much.” It sounds tidy. It is also wrong.

Most people start with the rooms that are actually failing. The drafty bedroom. The window that sticks. The unit with condensation, rot, or a seal that has clearly given up. Then they leave the rest for a season or two, because the rest is still doing its job.

That is exactly how it should work. We are not here to push replacements you do not need. We will tell you which windows are worth fixing now, which ones can wait, and which ones do not need replacing at all. Honest scope saves money, avoids unnecessary disruption, and gets the worst problems handled first.

In Alberta, where one bad window can make a whole room miserable for half the year, a phased approach is often the smartest move. Start with the failures, not the fantasy of replacing everything at once.

Takeaway: you do not need to do the whole house to make real progress.

Which room in your older Calgary home gives up first?

For many homes from the 1960s to the 1980s, it is the west-facing living room that becomes hard to enjoy after 4 p.m. The sun hits hard, the room overheats, and glare takes over long before dinner.

For others, it is the bedroom over the garage that never seems to hold heat. Or the finished basement that feels cold every time you sit near the glass. These rooms are usually the first ones to show where the home is losing comfort.

If you know the room that always feels too hot, too cold, or too bright, that is usually the best place to start. A simple home check can help you figure out what that room needs most, whether it is better windows, better coverings, or both.

Worried that install day in an older Calgary home means a week of dust, chaos, and half-finished rooms?

Usually, it does not. A good window, door, or blind install is much more controlled than most homeowners expect. The crew protects floors, works on one opening at a time, and keeps the rest of the house livable while the work is happening.

From your side, the day often looks like this: the team arrives, moves carefully through the house, and covers the areas they need to protect. One opening is removed, replaced, sealed, and finished before the crew moves on to the next. That means you are not left with open holes all day, and you are not living in a construction zone from room to room.

By the end of the visit, each opening should be complete, cleaned up, and ready to use. The site should be tidied before the crew leaves, so you are not spending your evening sweeping up after the install.

If you have been putting the project off because you picture a messy week, ask one simple question before you book: how do you protect the house and finish each opening the same day? That answer tells you a lot about how smooth your install day will be.

West Springs in late summer can get bright and hot fast, especially in the afternoon.

That is exactly why M. and T. reached out to Sunbusters. They wanted a cleaner quote, an easy install, and a way to make their living room comfortable again when the sun starts pushing heat inside.

Here is their 5-star Google review:

"On-time crew, clear quote, easy install, living room finally comfortable in the afternoon."

Simple feedback like this means a lot to us, and it is exactly the kind of result we work toward on homes across Calgary.

If your place is also fighting the summer heat, we would be happy to help.

Late July is a smart time to look at that patio or entry door before August hosting and cooler evenings arrive.

In Calgary, a drafty or sticking door can make the whole house feel less comfortable fast. If it is catching, leaking air, or making your AC work harder, now is the time to fix it.

10-minute door check:
- Close the door and look for daylight around the frame
- Feel for a draft near the bottom and sides
- Check if it sticks, drags, or needs a hard pull
- Look at the sweep, weatherstripping, and hardware
- Test how smoothly it locks and latches

If your door has been bothering you all season, a replacement can make a big difference before the next round of guests, BBQs, and cooler evenings.

Sunbusters does doors too, not just windows and blinds.
One-day mobile install makes the swap simple.

Have a door that needs a closer look? Call in a pro before small issues turn into bigger ones.
