Are you considering marble for your build or renovation?? Here is what you need to know…

1. Marble is relatively soft and very porous…etching and potential stains are inevitable but part of the natural patina of the stone. You have to know and accept this if you choose this stunning product.

2. Marble counters should be professionally sealed on installation and likely repeated every 6mo to a year depending on the use of the countertops.

3. Marble comes with an associated expectation of being SUPER expensive….this is not always the case and can greatly depend on the quarry is it mined from.

4. Marble is heat “resistant” making it a good option if your kitchen sees a lot of baking but despite its ability to withstand high temps, you never want to place a piping hot pot on marble (or granite or quartz for that matter!), for risk of discoloring or burning the surface — always use a pot holder.

As designers, it’s our job to educate our clients on the pros and cons of all material choices in their homes to always ensure function and practicality makes sense.

If you want a quick wipe and go kitchen, this product likely isn’t for you but there are alternate options that are equally beautiful without the same level of maintenance.

First, follow mh.Interiors for all of your design tips, tricks and inspo. This is a trial reel, which means you don’t follow us yet, but the algorithm thinks you should!

These may sound slightly unhinged, but they’re things designers consider that most homeowners never think about:

1. Lighting matters more than decor.
Beautiful furniture can’t save a room with bad lighting.

2. Never choose hardware, plumbing + lighting in isolation.
They should speak the same design language, and the metal finishes need to work together.

3. Stop making every room completely different.
Repeating colours, finishes and materials throughout creates a cohesive, intentional home.

4. Leave breathing room.
Not every wall, corner or shelf needs to be filled. Negative space is important lets your eye rest.

5. Buy the rug before the pillows.
The rug anchors the room and creates your colour palette.

6. Hang draperies high + wide, not right above the window.
It makes windows—and the entire room—feel larger.

7. Define your style before falling down the Pinterest rabbit hole.
Saving hundreds of ideas will only create confusion, not clarity.

8. Décor comes last.
Accessories can’t fix poor space planning, incorrect scale or clashing finishes.

9. Don’t make a trend permanent.
Choose pieces that support your overall vision. Your home should still feel like you long after the trend passes.

10. The biggest designer hack? Make fewer decisions—but make them intentionally.
More options don’t always create a better home. Often, they just create more overwhelm & decision fatigue.

There’s something about choosing to notice the beauty in the everyday — and I think the same can be said for the spaces we live in.

Our Elbow Valley renovation is all about creating a home that feels classic, timeless, and beautiful in a way that will be loved for years to come. Arches, detailed millwork, beautiful stone, warm wood, black accents, and so many thoughtful little moments woven throughout.

Because sometimes happiness really is found in the details — in the spaces we come home to, the people we share them with, and the beauty we choose to notice along the way.

Walking through this week with so much gratitude. 🤍

Most weeks are a beautiful blend of work and life, but this one looks a little more like morning work sessions, pool parties post breaky, mini golf by noon, mountain walks, children’s laughter, and evening wine….while listening to the birds sing as the sun goes down over the valley.

Soaking up these last slow moments as a family before the beautiful chaos of school, hockey, schedules, and routines begins again next week.

This is the real-life version of balancing entrepreneurship, doing work I genuinely love, being a parent, and being present for the life happening in between it all.

Somehow, the work, the family time, the laughter, the deadlines, the mess, the quiet moments and the beautiful chaos all weave together into a life I’m incredibly grateful to call mine. This week, I’m just trying to slow down long enough to notice it. 🤍

Here are 7 furniture + styling rules and measurements I use in almost every home:

1. COFFEE TABLES
Keep 16–18” between your sofa + coffee table. Height should be level with your sofa seat or 1–2” lower.

2. RUGS
At minimum, front legs on the rug. Ideally, all legs for a more grounded look. And yes — a rug pad is non-negotiable.

3. ARTWORK
Aim for the centre at 57–60” AFF — roughly eye level. Most people hang art wayyyy too high. Please don’t. 🙏🏼

4. CONSOLE TABLES
Keep a console within 2–4” of your sofa-back height — never higher than the sofa.

5. KITCHEN + DINING LIGHTING
Pendants + chandeliers generally hang 30–36” above your counter or tabletop, depending on fixture scale.

6. DINING ROOM SPACING
Allow 30–36” around your dining table. Your rug should extend 30–36” beyond it so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.

7. SHELVES + BUILT-INS
Think odd-numbered groupings — usually 3 or 5. Layer heights + materials, add something personal, and leave 20–30% negative space.

Good design isn’t just about beautiful things — it’s scale, proportion + spacing that make a room feel intentional.

It’s and we’re absolutely here for this beautiful combination of warm travertine + rich Verde marble.

We’re seeing greens continue to make their way from fashion into our interiors — from soft sage to earthy olive and deeper forest tones. In fact, green is increasingly being treated as a new neutral, showing up in everything from cabinetry and upholstery to tile and natural stone.

And Verde marble? A little design nerd moment for you: “Verde marble” actually refers to a family of green stones, with those incredible variations in colour and veining created by their unique mineral composition. No two slabs are exactly alike, which is part of what makes using natural stone so special.

Paired with the warmth and texture of travertine, it creates a palette that feels earthy, elevated and beautifully connected to nature.

We love seeing these nature-inspired tones bringing the outside in — timeless materials, rich greens, and a little bit of drama. We’re here for all of it. 🌿

Kinda chic to do what you love every day. 🤍

Snapped this pic this morning on my way to a design presentation for our Canmore custom retreat — presentation in hand, coffees secured, and ready to be appropriately caffeinated. ☕️

A beautiful mountain getaway for a wonderful family, where we had the privilege of designing the entire home in essentially one day — every furniture piece, wallpaper, and styling detail, thoughtfully pulled together from top to bottom.

Now comes the behind-the-scenes part: finalizing every detail and taking care of all the ordering, receiving, storage, delivery, and installation logistics. Our clients get to skip the chaos and simply walk into a beautifully finished home away from home. ✨

Not a day goes by that I’m not reminded how grateful I am to do what I do — creating beautiful spaces for wonderful humans, alongside an incredible team who helps bring it all to life.
