Time is a wild beast- sometimes it drags on and sometimes a moment can evaporate in a heartbeat. Flowers are a different kind of time keeper. They demand you pay attention, be in the moment. Turn away and ignore the clock and surprise! They are done. All the most iconic blooms are also the most fleeting. For good reason, they are also often the most fragrant, the most precious or bold. Mother's Day is looming, which for us also means the end of a season- tulips will be done from Holland, the ranunculas soon done too. Seems strange that some countries are ending spring and we are still waiting for our turn. Make time your friend and regardless of what's happening- celebrate it one moment at a time. Having people who have your back in all aspects of your life make it richer, more successful and worthwhile. The workplace is no exception. Today is Administrative Assistant's Day and this is the reminder to acknowledge their hardwork that supports you and your business. Anyone on the front line knows the gongshow it often is just to keep things running smooth. And when it doesn't run smooth- having a competent person to run interference is priceless. We are starting something new! Each month we will be creating a limited edition bouquet in honor of an artist and piece of their work we find inspiring. I may be biased as I love medieval art, flowers and have a Gabriel at home. As someone with an Art History background, i can say with certainty that flowers have been a wealth of inspiration to artists throughout every age and culture. It is so ingrained that we often forget to notice. In 1848, a group of English gents ( and later some women too!) formed the brotherhood of Pre-Raphaelites. They wanted to create work inspired by early Renaissance Italian painters and took their prompts from Romanticism and Nature in a truthful, realistic way. Rich colours hailed from medieval palettes ( les tres riches heures de Duc du Berry) and fused art tied to romantic literature. Dreamy, ethereal results set the foundations of the Arts and Crafts movement as they were associated with William Morris. His wife Jane often sat in as model for these works. I chose ‘ Blue Silk Dress’ from 1868 as my inspiration. I chose blooms not only in that palette but in their varieties as well. Blue Eryngium Aquarius, Butterfly Musa , ranunculas Romance Odin and Chaouen, Spray rose Roseberry, Double Dutch tulips Soulmate , a Glorious Cablelight rose and Chamomile for a medieval touch. To all the women out there- the ones who paved the way to the ones that will take the batton for the future. Where would the world be without you? No where. The more we lift each other, the more everyone benefits. I love that we can get our hands dirty and still be full of grace. To be a fearless leader but lead with our hearts on our sleeves. Women are so so many things- but most of all- I wish for you to grow into your best self without fear. Bring it. Happy International Women's Day, its not just a day- it's a movement.

Have you heard the term third spaces? As someone with an Art History back ground, this concept is not new. Without the café scene around the turn of the 1900's- would the Impressionist movement or Successionist movement happened? It's a place that isn't home or work. A place where people gather and connect with others in play or conversation. The gym, coffee shops, public spaces like parks, the library, art centres...sometimes our shop on a Saturday afternoon-lol. Where ideas can percolate or you can recharge. This is our studio for me, and hopefully over time- maybe you too! I had always wanted to create a space where a community could connect. Over the past. Few years, I have spent more time making than connecting- but the dream is still there. is where you will see what we have up our sleeves. Monthly Crafternoon, classes, yoga in the garden, seasonal Vintage & Garden markets. If you aren't on the class call list- get on it! More than ever, we need happy spaces to recharge.

The world these days is pretty heavy and I don't know about you- but I'm feeling it. With international Women's day approaching fast- I find myself ruminating on the importance of women lifting each other up and lightening the load for others. It's something women have done since the dawn of humanity- built community. It has to be a give and take though, too often the load is imbalanced. How do we fix that? Recognition, awareness, learning and developing empathy. So let's call out some women that deserve to be lifted for all they do. We will choose 3 women to recieve a women's day bouquet.
